Chapter 28: Wings
Caleigh's Point of View
"Caleigh, Caleigh. Wake up, Kitty." Luke said, shaking me into reality.
I awoke staring into his chocolate brown eyes, they sparkled in the light that filtered through the small window in the room. As my eyes slowly adjusted, I noticed that his face was masked with worry.
"Luke what's wrong?" I asked sitting up.
"Zeus has sent for us, but there's nothing of the others. They aren't here." He explained.
I looked to the door and saw that Donovan was poking his head through.
"Lady Caleigh, we sincerely apologize for your accommodation and the way you have been treated." He said bowing.
I wasn't used to the formalities, but all my anger from the night before had gone.
"It's not a problem, you were just doing your job."
He nodded and led us out to where a large litter was waiting for us.
"The royal litter." Stated Luke beside me as he whispered it so only I would hear him.
"Why?" I asked curiously, " Why not a normal one."
"Zeus sent for us, Mia, Jace and the others must already be there." He explained.
"How did they get through without us?"
Luke laced his fingers through mine and ran his thumb over the back of my hand.
"Love, you forget that she's the Princess, she grew up on Olympus, everyone knows her here."
It turned out everyone knew the royal litter too. The people ran into the streets to try and see who it was. We kept the curtains drawn however a few prying hands managed to create crack in which they could see us. The palace guards moved quickly when we arrived, concealing us as we ran to the Grand Entrance.
It was beautiful. Cold marble was everywhere, in pristine white and pale rose, gold decorations were everywhere, along with exquisite flowers of endless colours that were scattered around every where. Even floating in the clear water of the small water pool that was situated in in the middle of the hall. Around the marble columns ivy grew up and into endless heights of balconies above us. It smelt of vanilla with an essence of cinnamon along with many other smells that just made your senses light up. In the background I could hear the gentle music of a harp, graceful music just dancing through the air. Yet I could see no way out except the way we had just come in.
"Caleigh do you feel it?" Asked Luke, breaking me out of my trance.
"Feel what?" I asked, and just as soon as I did. I felt what he was talking about. A strange tingling sensation took over my shoulder blades and my back, it was like pixies just dancing around. I locked eyes with Luke as he doubled over, I leaped forward just to see two slits in the back of his shirt appear. Something shot out of his back before unfurling his around him. A Demi- Angel, they were his angel wings. As he stood up, I gasped at his breathtaking wings. They were white, as all angels wings are, but the tips were red and black, signifying his heritage and who his parents are. I was so consumed by his beauty that I didn't notice my own wings unfurling.
I shuddered as I felt the relief of the wings finally being let out after many millenia. They were a part of me I loved, they made me feel light, they took my feet off the ground letting me experience wonders that others never got the privilege to. To experience a whole new world.
"What do they look like?" I asked Luke.
A smirk played on his lips, the famous Monroe smirk that I knew I would never grow tired of.
