Chapter 10: Missing
Caleigh
We didn't talk about that night. I think we were all so afraid.
Afraid to admit what I could be.
Afraid to admit what we had seen Mia do.
Luke and I worked on our drama script and Jace just sat and stood gormless, completely blanking out the world. He'd stare at the places where Mia should be. To be honest I did that as well. I knew we all needed to talk about what happened, but facing the reality of it wasn't something any of us wanted to do.
Mia wasn't in school all week, however her brother turned up at period 5 every day, I'm assuming to pick up her school work.
"Ok," Luke said as I sat down next to him in a deserted corner of the school on Tuesday afternoon.
I asked puzzled "Ok what?"
"I want to apologize for storming off like that on Tuesday, it sounded like a load of crap at first!" He said smiling warmly.
"It's ok, it was a lot to take in. And after what happened with Mia I'm beginning to believe it." I sighed.
Luke nodded "I know what you mean. But whatever it may be, I'll support you Caleigh you know that right?"
I nodded.
Jace walked past us and didn't even glance our way. He was walking quickly and kept glancing over his shoulder.
"I'm worried about him. It's like he's going crazy. He barely speaks to me. In fact he's hardly been home this past week."
"Where do you think he goes?" I asked.
"I'm not sure, it's probably band practise or he's song writing!" Luke shrugged.
"You don't think he went to see her? Do you?" I asked.
Luke's nose scrunched up slightly as it always did when he thought deeply "No, he would of told us, and she would be at school"
I nodded "Fair point!"
Luke fished around in his pocket and brought out his phone and headphones, he passed me an ear and I put it in. The Proclaimers ' I'm On My Way' came on and Luke looked down at me with a massive grin on his face. I sunk into his side and he wrapped an arm around me. He smelled so good, from where I was, I could hear his heart beating fast. Was that for me? No it couldn't be.
"Do you want to come in for a bit?" I asked Luke when he dropped me off at home. Luke had taken over taking me to school after Jace went strange.
He grinned his dazzling smile at me "Of course!"
As I collected my bag Luke ran round to open my door.
"Aren't you a gentleman!" I teased.
Luke chuckled "Yes, got to keep up my reputation for milady"
I rolled my eyes but I knew I blushed and inside my heart was fluttering.
Luke got to the front door and unlocked it.
"How did you..?"
"Your mum gave me a key so I could look after you!"
We walked into the kitchen and Luke pointed to the stools centred around the unit.
"Sit."
I sat down as he grabbed food and made us both sandwiches.
"Are your parents home?" Luke asked.
