Chapter 5: The Studio
Mia
"So how have you been?" Asked Jace curiously as we sat in his black Volvo.
I smiled "Good now. Things went bad but I dealt with it. I'm OK now"
Jace met my eyes, he was looking at my face for any signs, he wanted to make sure I really was ok. That I really was telling the truth. For a moment I saw sorrow cross his face, but just as soon as that came, his bad boy façade returned.
"You look different!" Jace stated as he looked me up and down, out of the corner of his eye.
I looked at him. He looked different as well, of course I looked different he hasn't seen me for four years.
"Different in a good way, a really good way Mia! What happened to my chubby bunny?" Jace said as he winked at me.
I laughed and rolled my eyes, remembering what I used to look like. "Thanks! And your chubby bunny decided to loose a lot of weight!"
"Was it because of a boy? Has my ikkle Mia got herself a big boy." Jace teased.
"I groaned "No Jace, it was not for a boy, and no I don't have a boyfriend! I was just sick of people bullying me because of my weight!"
His teasing ceased "Good because my Mia should never change for a boy"
"Yes Captain Jace!" I mocked rolling my eyes.
"I want the name of everyone who bullied you, I will take them down." Jace demanded.
I shook my head, "Jace, you don't have to do that, it's not like we are friends."
I knew him well enough and watched as my words stung him, "Mia..."
We drove in silence for a few moments and I listening to his thoughts inside his head as weather or not to grab my hand.
"So what about you, why a sudden return?" I asked.
A smirk, the Monroe Twin Smirk, appeared on his face.
"Luke and I agreed we had unfinished business and knew we had to come back!"
"What business?? Where were you?" I asked.
I knew I was right. I just didn't know how to tell Caleigh it was coming. I've known ever since the accident that things will never be normal for us. I've known that I'm a Greek Angel, that I was cast down because of my love for Jace. To find him again and prove our love is true before my 18th birthday. If not we die and are reincarnated and the process starts all over again. I know that I have powers that can do amazing things, That I can see the future and read peoples minds. But the curse hasn't been broken on the others, not yet. When I learned of my true self everything became clear. everything finally fitted into place. There are still many things that don't make sense to me and that I don't know. But it will all make sense in the future, I'll just have to wait and see.
"Questions questions Princess Mia!! All in good time!" He answered
I mumbled under my breath "Delinquent grumpy pants"
I felt his gaze on mine as he pulled up in front of my house that is built into the hills of the Yorkshire moors.
"I'm sorry what was that Princess Mia!"
I rolled my eyes and got out the car "Thank you for the ride Jace!"
"My pleasure Princess!"
I was just about to walk to my door when Jace shouted my name
"Be ready for eight on Monday, I'm taking you to school!"
I shook my head "Thanks for the offer but I want to drive my car!"
I said pointing to the old mustang that was parked on the drive way. I don't have a drivers license and the cars completely trashed but he doesn't know that.
"Mia, Mia, Mia, you should know better, it's not an option, I'll sling you over my shoulder kicking and screaming if I have to!"
Dammit.
I groan and walk into my house as he drives away, Evanescence playing loudly.
Yesterday's conversation with Jace runs around and around my head whilst I tie up my ballet shoes.
Caleigh had told me all about her encounter with Luke when I arrived at the Cafe last night. But now I was in the top room of the dance studio. Mirrors aligned the walls and a wooden bean ran across the perimeter of the room. I stood in the chalk box to coat my shoes.
"What I don't get is how they just show up out of the blue!" Caleigh states.
I know why, but I cannot tell her, so instead, I agree. "I don't either it is rather strange, and how they've just come back into our lives as if nothing had ever changed."
"We need to tread carefully, watch ourselves at all costs." Caleigh mused.
"That we do!" I agreed.
I walked over to the CD player and pressed play before running to take my position. I quickly lost myself in the music, my body automatically doing to steps as we had imprinted the routine in our minds. It is the piece of music from Swan Lake were Odett is cursed. It's a wonderfully dark and powerful piece of dance and the detailing is so precise.
We were creating our own show, and also the different routines so we can prepare to go to our university in two years.
"We have a few others and then that's it!" I smiled as since arriving at 7am and staying behind late until 7pm we had produced and practiced so many routines, of all different kinds of dance.
"I hope Luke isn't too mad that I didn't turn up" Caleigh said.
"Hmmm, well you already had plans so you have a right!" I stated.
"Come on! Lets get us home!" Caleigh said as she opened the door to her car.
