Chapter 25: The Proposal

Mia

"Wake up beautiful," I hear someone whisper in my ear.

I stirred uncomfortably, my whole body ached and felt so heavy. A hand brushed my hair from my face, the touch warm and comforting.

Slowly I opened my eyes and waited for them to adjust as the sunlight flooded into the room. Jace's dazzling bluey green eyes gazed down lovingly at mine, his dark hair was perfectly styled as usual and the sunlight was hitting his face perfectly. It was like I was looking at a God.

I leaned up on one arm and looked at the others in the room. Elliott and Ashley were stood protectively by the door, watching us. Xander was sat, his back against the wall, he was polishing his sword. Xander took pride in his weapons. He loved them.

I sat up. "Where's Kitty and Luke!!!!" I asked panicking.

Jace nodded to the door "They're outside, Caleigh wanted to watch the sunrise. We were waiting until then to move."

"Let's review the plan!" Said Luke just before we started heading out.

Ashley pointed towards the map of the city we had out on the floor.

"We'll walk to the fountain, from their I will take Caleigh, Elliott will take Luke. Xander will take Mia as I want maximum protection. And Jace goes alone as he can look after himself." Ashley instructed.

Ashley nodded towards Caleigh and Luke "As soon as the both of you are in the temples, you must place your hands on the alter, from there, you'll be taken back to Olympus where you are to notify the elders of what's happening."

Caleigh and Luke laced their fingers together and agreed. I watched happily as Luke placed a kiss on Caleigh's forehead and remembered how it wasn't that long ago that the pair of them got together.

Ashley turned to Jace and I. "I'll return to the temple of Apollo to protect Jace, whilst  Elliott will go and assist with protecting Mia until the night is up."

I nodded, I wasn't really sure what to expect in the night to come, I really didn't, and the thought still scared me. What happened if I didn't make it through the night? Am I strong enough to make it? I'll never be able to live with myself if I mess up my only chance. I can only pray that I'll make it and return.

"Stop worrying Mia!" Said Caleigh walking over to me, she pulled me into a tight hug. I felt my worry leave me as my best friend held me together. It was as if she could see whatever I was feeling. I remember times of going through my depression when I'd be a right bitch and just yell at her for no reason. I'd feel horrible and hope she'd forgive me. And she did. After everything I'd gone through, never could I have done it without Caleigh.

"It'll be dark soon," said Xander pushing back his long hair. "We better start going."

We all stood up and filed out of Luke's old home. The Demi Angels stood checking over their weapons. The nerves washed back over me as we walked back down the old track. Even with Jace's hand in mine I just couldn't stop thinking about what was about to happen. We are finally returning to Olympus. And as soon as I return, I'll be thrown back into the world of Princess duties, preparing for my coronation.

Tourists still wandered the streets, unaware of the real world that they walked through. They filtered into restaurants and pubs, ready to eat.

Alec was surveying the area and growing more alert as the sun went down. In the square was a large fountain, it stood grand and was certainly the centre piece

"The Goddess Athena!" Announced Caleigh.

I looked up at the structure and indeed it did look like a stone version of my mother. I smiled up at it, it wouldn't be long until I'd see her again.

I was lost in my own thoughts with Caleigh stood beside me. She grabbed my hand, I looked down at my best friend. Her olive skin and brown hair looked every bit of the Greek Angel I knew she was.

"Things are going to be so different when we get back!" She whispered.

I sighed,"Yeah, back to my royal duties."

"Maybe things have changed? We've been gone a while." Caleigh pointed out.

I looked into the rippling water as it cascaded from the fountain. "Things are going to change, I want to make a difference."

Caleigh squeezed my hand "I know you will, and I can't wait to see what they'll be."

There was a cough behind us that made me jump. I span around to come face to face with Jace. He smiled lovingly at me, his eyes blazing with passion. "Mia I want to talk to you a minute." He said grabbing both my hands in his.

The sun was setting behind the trees and the orange and pink sky was so beautiful.

Jace led me down the steps of the fountain, never taking his eyes off mine. He moved his hand up and moved a stray piece of hair from my face, the tips of his fingers just grazing my cheek.

Still holding my hand, he sank down on to one knee. My hand shot up to my mouth as the shock coursed through me of what was happening.

"Amelia Victoria of Olympus, this time I have spent with you, has made my heart burn, there's not a day that has ever gone by, that you have not been in my heart. You are my light to everything, and I know that without you, I wouldn't be the man I am today. For many many millennia our love has burned, surviving through it all. And if I am to return to Olympus, I long to do so, with the promise that you will be my wife. My beautiful dearest love, would you do me the greatest honour, of marrying me?" Asked Jace his voice carrying so much passion

I stared into the endless oblivion of his eyes. I felt a smile spread across my face as I replied "Yes, Yes, Yes!"

He wrapped his arms around my waist as he pulled me to him, his lips found their way to mine, were I slipped into an endless euphoria of happiness. Love rushed through me, it filled up my veins as Jace put me down and held out the ring. I recognized it immediately. It was Jace's mother's ring, the last gift she had given him. Along with a promise linked to the ring. Now he was giving it to me. He placed it on my finger before leaning dome to kiss my hand.

"We shall do this together." I said as I pecked his lips. The others around us were cheering and whooping. But we were quickly brought back to reality when we realized that it would be night soon, we needed to go.

Everyone said good luck to each other , there was no utterance of good byes. No one could bring themselves to do it, and if you said it, it meant you admitted to being weak.

I watched remorsefully as Ashley, Caleigh ran off with each other towards the temple of Hades, Luke and Elliott towards the temple of Dionysus, and as Jace, now my fiancé, vanished into thin air as he ran alone. That left the floppy haired, slightly arrogant Xander.

He slung a protective arm over my shoulder "Don't leave my side unless I tell you to. I want to at least get you there in one piece."
