Chapter Four: Hard At Work
Caleigh
It was late Friday night and I was at work in one of my Dad's shops. He's head of a record label and has made a branch of diners that are also music stores. We serve the food whilst you listen to old or new records. Shelves of records line the walls and are built into the cases where people sit. Mia should be here soon to join me for the shift. Mia and I had told our parents that we wanted to get the money for University and things like that ourselves. Neither of them were happy about it at first but then my dad decided it would be good if we worked at his shops, then at least we would be OK. It was a great compromise, but the late night shifts were like hell.
I was stood behind the sleek black counter cleaning and heard the bell ring as some one entered the diner. I carried on with what I was doing until I felt the gaze of someone standing over me. I looked up and fell into the most enchanting hazel eyes. I felt a smile creeping up on my face. We stood like that, just gazing intently into each others eyes.
"Hey Kitty!" He breathed.
"Lukey!" I exclaimed running round the counter to hug him. His arms wrapped round me holding tightly to my small frame. I felt him shiver and his breath hitch.
You are being stupid now Caleigh, remember you and Mia agreed to never talk to them again. Why are you hugging him right now. Mia would destroy you if she saw you right now.
"It's good to see you Kitty, you look great!" Luke sighed.
"You to! I haven't seen you since" I paused trailing off. The last time I'd seen him was when they gave us a leg up through the window.
Luke ducked his head and I noticed the sorrow in his eyes. "I know"
Well at least I wish that was how it had happened. This is what really went down.
"Hey!" Luke said with his signature smirk, the same one that his brother has as well.
"How may I help you?" I asked.
Luke leaned forwards over the counter, "Well the pretty waitress is someone whom I haven't seen for four years, and to be honest, I'd totally bang her!"
I rolled my eyes and snapped "You know I'm surprised they let you back in this town, Monroe!"
He looked taken aback, but then he regained his composure and winked at me "Ooohh feisty! I like it. Has Caleigh finally learned to stand up for her self!"
I felt a sudden rage build up inside of me "What do you want Luke!" I hissed.
"You know you really shouldn't talk to customers like that, better hope I don't report it to the boss" He retorted.
"Luke!" I snapped quickly loosing my patience. I swear he makes me so mad. But I can't help looking at him without my heart melting.
Luke asked, "Are you free tomorrow?"
"No I'm bloody expensive!" I replied my voice dripping with sarcasm.
Luke chuckled before rolling his eyes "Same old Caleigh! But seriously Caleigh, are you free tomorrow?"
I shook my head "I have a thing, with Mia"
He jumped like a little child, "Yay Mia!, And you're wrong, your coming with me tomorrow! Meet me here at 9 sharp, with Mia"
Before I could protest he turned on his heel and sauntered out the door.
I really 'hate' that boy!! And if he thinks I'm meeting him, well he's in for a shock. Mia and I are at the dance studio tomorrow, and we wouldn't miss that for the world.
You see, Mia and I have always wanted to go into performing arts, both of us sing, we can dance every type of dance. The only difference is that I'm better at acting and that Mia can play practically every instrument. We are currently working on putting together a few shows that we can direct. Because we are going to set up our own act. We train in a room of the dance studio every Saturday from 7 till 6, and occasionally after school. I have to tell Mia about this.
