Maya's POV
After my experience with Charlie, and then later on Lucas, my day pretty much goes on like normal. Zay is acting pretty protective over me, and Lucas keeps giving me funny looks though.
Once school is over, Mr. Matthews tells me that my mom will be working late, and Shawn is hanging out at the Matthews' so he says he's taking me over there.
Mr. Matthews drives me in his quiet car, Riley is walking home, so I get some calm before the storm. I turn on the radio and the song "Only Human" by Christina Perry comes on. I've always loved and related to that song. I quietly
sing the lyrics, trying not to cry.
"You really do have a very nice voice, Maya," Mr. Matthews says.
"Oh, um... thanks?"
"Did you know, Shawnie and I tried to be rockstars once?"
He then begins his long story which will continue for the remainder of the ride.

Ten minutes and one Cory/Shawn story later, we finally arrive at the Matthews' apartment.
As I enter, I feel a sense of home and safety. Monday feels like ages ago, and I really missed this place.
The second she sees me, Topanga runs over and embraces me in a huge hug.
"Oh my goodness, how are you? How's your poor little ankle? Here, come sit down!" She says, clearly excited to see me.
She helps me over to the couch and we watch the little Cory and Shawn reunion.
"Hey Shawnie, I was just telling Maya about our old band in high school. Remember that?"
"Do I?!"
They start to sing one of the old songs they made up, I think it's about bologna or something.
Just then, I hear, "Is that Maya I hear down there?!" coming from upstairs. Next, I hear somebody coming down the stairs.
Riley pops up from the stairs and comes and sits beside me. She gives me a little hug and grabs my hand. She knows that makes me feel safe and loved.
There is so much love in this room right now, it almost makes me forget about all my pain and sadness.
Riley whispers, "Bay window?"
"Bay window right now," I reply.
I somehow managed to crutch up the stairs, and we soon find ourselves sitting in the bay window.
"Maya?"
"Yeah, Riles?"
"I know you weren't just walking home when you fell. What really happened?"
I take a deep breath.
"When Charlie said those things to me, I was so afraid. And then when Lucas came over, I was petrified. He just had this look on his face. It wasn't like him at all."
"Texas Lucas."
I nod and continue, "The only thing I could think to do at that point was get as far away from them as I could. So I ran. I ended up running out off the school and continued running. When I was almost home, I began to realize the ice on the sidewalks were getting more and more slippery. Despite that, I kept running—"
"Why? Why would you keep running?" Riley asks.
"I don't know, I guess I thought nothing would happen. All I could think about was how afraid I was."
Riley pulls me into a hug and wipes the tears off my cheeks.
After a minute she asks, "Ready to continue?"
I nod.
"After running for a little longer, I-I just heard a loud crash and found myself laying on the ice-covered sidewalk. I didn't even realize how much my ankle hurt until I tried to stand up."
I start crying hard.
Riley hugs me tight and says, "Oh Peaches, I'm soooo sorry!"
"Don't be sorry, it- it's not your fault, it's mine. I shouldn't have been running on the ice like that."
"NOBODY is at fault here Maya."
"Okay," I say quietly.
After a minute of silence, Topanga calls us for dinner.
Riley Hugs me once more, and we head downstairs— very carefully for me.

For dinner we eat lasagna and ceaser salad, my favourites. It especially shows when my plate is empty and I ask for more. I'm not a big eater, however, Italian food is me weakness.
After dinner and a movie, Riley and I sit in the bay window and talk about everything under the sun for hours.
We fall asleep in a heap on top of each other in the bay window. For once, I feel safe and sound.
I wish this never has to end.A/N
