Lucas's POV

I look all over New York for Maya. I check all her favourite places; her house, the bay window, that park with the statues she vandalized last year. I look literally everywhere. She's nowhere to be found.
Around 5:15, I text Riley telling her to meet me at Topanga's. A few minutes later she rushes in.
"Did you find Maya?" she asks.
"Nope."
"I don't know where she could've gone."
"I don't know, I looked everywhere."
"Did you check the bay window?"
"Yup, and everywhere else she would've gone. It's like she disappeared."
We both fall silent trying to figure out where she went.
I suddenly notice something unusual.
"Hey, doesn't Maya's mom usually work here around this time?" I ask.
"Um, yeah, I guess. She isn't here?"
We scan the entire bakery for a moment.
"Nope," I finally say.
"Hmmmmm," we both say at the same time.
"I'm going to text the rest of the group and tell them to meet us here. Hopefully we can figure it out," Riley tells me.
"I'm going to try and call Maya's mom."
I try calling her a few times.
"Nothing."
I'm so frustrated, what could've happened?
Riley shrugs, "Maybe we should try her house again? We can wait until the others get here, and then go."
"I guess we don't have any other options," I say.

All five of us— Riley, me, Zay, Farkle, and Smackle— crowd into the narrow hallway of Maya's apartment building.
"You can knock, Riley. You are Maya's best friend, after all." I say. I don't know what I'm thinking.
Riley knocks a couple times. A minute later, Mrs. Hunter answers the door.
"Oh hey guys," she says, "what are y'all doing here?"
"Is Maya home?" Riley asks.
Katy glances inside her apartment quickly and says, "I bet Maya would love to see you guys, but unfortunately, she isn't feeling well right now."
"Oh," Riley said, "Do you want me to go back to my house and get her some soup?!"
"I'll think she'll be okay, Riley. Don't worry, she should be at school tomorrow, she just doesn't want anyone else to get sick."
I know she's lying, Maya always wants Riley when she isn't feeling well. At least I know she's at home and safe.
"Okay, thank you Mrs. Hunter," I say.
"BYE MAYA I HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER!" yells Riley.
I hear a faint "Thanks Riles,"
coming from the apartment.
As we leave the building, Farkle says, "Something's wrong, I just can't tell what it is."
"What do you mean?" Riley asks, watching her step on the icy sidewalk.
"I can tell there's something up with Maya. I just can't figure out what..."
It's almost 7:00 now, and pitch black outside, so we decide to head home. We'll have to wait until tomorrow to see Maya at school... if she shows up.
