T-Rexes and Flowers

The honey blonde girl elbowed him as she walked past him, her purse and a store bag dangling from her elbow.

"Hey, lady," he called. "You should probably pay more attention to those who are walking." It came out a little more angry than he planned it to.

The girl stopped walking and turned her head around to stare down Ash. "Rude," she remarked distastefully and continued to walk.

He began to walk faster to catch up to her. "I'm getting really tired of this, you know."

"And why are you talking to me now?" She tried moving farther to the right into the buildings.

"You walk into me and others every morning. And don't get me going on other things I've seen you do. You just walked out of that store stealing a goddamn toy from that kid behind us." He motioned his eyes. "You snatched it right out of his hands when it was the very last one there."

"So?" She threw her hair back. "Are you stalking me?"

"No," he replied sharply, "I'm not stalking you. You walk down here every morning and I just so happened to be in that store looking for a gift for someone."

"Stalking."

"I'm not stalking you for goodness sakes, you're just so rude that everyone down this path happens to know you," Ash spit.

"You can stop talking to me now," she said while taking out a mirror from the side pocket of her purse. "I have to be somewhere. I don't have time for someone like you."

"For someone like me?"

"For someone like you." She looked back up from the mirror and moved her eyes to look at his entire figure.

"You're kidding me, right?" He stopped walking, letting her continue to walk out towards the next block.

"Nope!" She put the mirror back into the pocket.

He ran back up to her. "It's Christmas Eve for goodness sakes show at least a little bit of decency!"

"Decency?!" The girl was the one to stop walking now. "My goodness, the irony!"

"The irony?" He felt his blood begin to boil. "My god woman, get a grip." He started to walk away.

"And good riddance!"

As he continued to walk straight down the sidewalk of the city, he felt a tug on his sleeve and Ash looked down to find the small child that the lady had taken the present from. He held a small package and hand and threw it up to his face, grasping it tightly in his small hands.

Ash looked up to find the boy's parents staring at him, smiling.

"Is this for me?" Ash asked, pointing to himself.

The boy nodded, shoving the crumpled pieces of papers a little further out towards him.

Ash smiled warmly and took the wrapped gift from the young man, holding it out in front of himself and staring at it with warm cheeks. "Thank you," he thanked him as best as he could before staring right back up to the parents, saying another thank you with his lips. They lipped you're welcome right back. For the parents knew how rude that lady has been to everyone for a good time. It was nice seeing someone finally stepping up to her.
