The Frozen GirlShe took the hot mug that rested on the sepia floor in front of her, purposefully searing the tips of her fingers for a sense of warmth.
The boy with coal painted, unbrushed hair sat in front of her. He stared at her blue eyes and felt his own muscles tense a little.
When Serena was taking a short sip of the hot cocoa, she got a glimpse of the boy staring at her, causing her to stop drinking the drink and set it back down on the floor. She huddled in her blanket.
She remembered the harsh cold. The splinters of ice. The white, desolate land. She shivered.
"Are you still cold?" The teenage boy asked, already beginning to stand up.
Serena stayed silent for a while before meekly shaking her head yes.
The boy got up and walked over towards into another room, leaving the frozen dirty blonde girl sitting alone.
As she waited, she'd pull out small pieces of melting snow from her hair.
The tousled hair boy came back into the room with some wooden logs in hand and more blankets on his shoulders.
"Now," he walked on over towards the fireplace that was on the other side of the room, "I know you might be worried trusting me and all, but you can trust-"
"I know," Serena muttered to herself.
"What?" He patted his hands down on his jeans after stuffing all of the wood into the fireplace.
"I know I can trust you."
"You do?" He began to walk back over towards her, getting ready to hand her another blanket and request her to move closer towards the fireplace.
"Yeah."
"Why?" He trailed off, kneeling down beside her, placing the extra blankets down on her lap.
Serena looked up at his face and stared for a while. His eyes were a perfect hazel. They almost seemed a certain type of warm. But the rest she was unsure of. The rest of him seemed so familiar. Or maybe it was just the fact that the cabin was so much better than the freezing cold. So she gave the only truthful answer she could mumble up.
"You just seem nice."
"Oh," Ash replied, standing back up on his two feet. "Well, I'm glad you trust me." He put his hands on his hips.
"Yeah..." Serena looked down at the tips of her hair, still somewhat wet, slapping her at her cheeks. She had cut her hair since leaving home. She started to regret the decision.
"Well, the name's Ash." He said this while rubbing the bottom of his nose. "Yours?"
With her voice still slightly scratchy, the girl replied, "Serena."
"I like your eyes," He spit out. He sort of smiled.
Serena blushed and felt a weird sense of insecurity. It was... unexpected.
Ash noticed this and tried to play it cool. "Sorry, no, um." He laughed a bit. "Sorry I didn't mean to sound any bit creepy, just truthful. You really do have astounding blue eyes." He rubbed the back of his head, tangling his hair around a bit more before realizing that was only a slight bit better. "They're just really noticeable, you know?"
