“The temperature of Sydney, Australia is 67 degrees. The time is 12:01 am. We will be landing in the next 25 minutes. Please fasten your seatbelts and welcome to Sydney.” I heard a monotone voice over the intercom.
Well shit, I’m here. I turned my phone and iPod off. I looked out the window to see a black sky and many lights. I was approaching the airport and were landing so soon. I could see the lights from the city.
Within minutes we were landed. My ‘new family’ is going to be waiting outside for me! I couldn’t help to have sweaty palms and short breath. I hope they like me. I mean shit I’m going to be living with them for awhile.
I walk of the airport and see a short lady and a tall lanky boy with blonde hair holding a sign saying ‘The Cliffords’. The boy had a very serious look on his face, he looked pissed off quite frankly. His mom although had a gigantic smile on her face. They were both blonde and had the same face. How adorable.
“Hi!! I’m Grace Mercado!” I said with a huge smile on my face.
“Hello dear, I’m Karen. And this is my son Michael. Say hello love.” She nudges her son to say hello to me.
“Hey.” He says shortly. Okay...
“Take her bags Mike, hurry.” His mom says and he signs and walk over to me.
Our hands touch for a brief second and my world stops. He looks at me with blue eyes and my heart feels like its about to give out. We don’t say anything to each other and he keeps his eyes on mine . Piercing my soul. “Thanks.” I say breathlessly. “Yeah.” He says and doesn’t give me a smile. That was weird.
We walked through the airport in silence. “Well you two, would you like something to eat?” She asks. I was a little bit hungry. “Yes please.” I look over at Michael and he just had a blank face. What the fuck was his problem.
“Yeah.” He said shortly. Again. “Well I want to stop for some pizza before we head home. Okay?” Karen says to us. We both nod and continue to walk behind her.
Michael shoots me glance, and I look back at him. We held eye contact for a couple of seconds. I smiled at him and he just gave me a stale face in return. Hmph.
We get in the car and Karen plays the radio. Its a couple of pop songs that had been popular on the radio. I could help but hum along. Karen gives me a smile and grabs my hand. “It will be a fun, I promise.” She said almost in a whisper. I nod my head and return a smile.

We finally arrive to the house. It was really quaint. It was cute and quiet and seemed like a place I would enjoy. When we finally got inside Michael set down the pizzas and I set down my things.
“Michael go show Grace her room, okay.” She commanded. He hoffed obviously not wanting to spend anytime with me.
“Can I show her after we eat?” He protested. She just shrugged her shoulders. “Fine. I’m off to bed you two, can you help Grace get comfortable tonight please, and be nice Michael Gord-”
“Don’t call me that.” He says under his breath. She walks upstairs (assuming she’s going to her room)
And there we were left in awkward silence.
