phil's pov

i let go of dan's hand and started walking through the ghost town. i don't know why this place appeals to me but it's kind of like a safe place. i can do my best thinking here and i enjoy exploring the dead, run down buildings.

i started walking towards my favorite spot of the town and i looked back to see if dan was still following me. he got the message and jogged up next to me grabbing my hand intertwining our fingers again.

he's probably just paranoid.

"so what is this place?" he asked.

"i'll show you."

i walked across the dewy grass and i could hear dan's footsteps trailing behind me. we stopped in front of one of the worn down buildings. a sign hanging from a broken chain read curly's auto repair. it was amazing that the sign was still readable.

"is this it?" dan said from behind me.

"sort of." i laughed.

dan followed me being the building stepping over a couple of fallen bricks and glass shards that littered the ground. i began climbing up the rusty pipes that seemed to be a fire escape, but it was more like a ladder that led to the top of the building. i looked back at dan who was still on the ground. "c'mon. i thought you wanted to know where i was taking you." i teased.

"is this even legal?" he called up at me.

"possibly, i don't think there are any laws against it."

"that's reassuring." but he started to climb up behind me.

i continued on climbing occasionally looking back at dan. when i reached the top i pulled myself over the cement lining. dan was right behind me so i helped him over it too. he was panting but i figured it was because he wasn't used to climbing buildings that were literally falling apart.

dan ran his hand along the lining and it crumbled slightly. "if it was put here to protect you from falling then how's it supposed to stop you if it's falling it's self? how could anyone like it?"

"that's ironically deep." i laughed. i pointed to the sky. dan followed my finger and let out a small gasp. "this is why i like it here so much."
