dan's pov

"oh shit oh shit oh shit." those were the only words my brain was able to register as i frantically hopped around my house trying to get ready for school.

running to the bathroom, i pulled the pair of jeans i wore last night to the party out of the hamper and threw them on, my ugly tee shirt that looked like a really fucked up bandana was in there too so that went on as well.

my hair was fortunately all ready straightened. i thought ahead last night figuring that if i did it the night before rather than in the morning i would be done before the bus came. apparently i should of spent that time setting an alarm.

i flew down the stairs and grabbed my backpack and tied my shoes.

somehow, me being late has became a part of my routine and luckily it has for my friend louise too.

louise has given me a ride to school almost everyday for the past semester. we were always both late for random, unexplainable reasons so we decided to join up and use our disadvantage as an advantage. she picks me up and gives me a ride, and i give her company.

we're kind of like a super duo, except crappier and the only thing that makes us "super" is our disability in keeping track of time.

i heard a car honk and sprinted out the door wasting no time that would make us any later.

"hey." i said sitting down quickly and closing the door. she resumed driving instantly.

she was smiling. "you look like a flailing walrus when you run."

"thanks." i said.

"we're later than usual today."

"what's you excuse?"

"don't have one today. did your mum leave a note?"

i rummaged trough my backpack and pulled out a yellowed piece of paper."leaving for work early tomorrow morning wake yourself up love mum." i laughed and threw it back in. "that would have been good to know."

"it's not like you would have woke up in time anyways." louise smiled.

after about 20 minutes louise pulled into the the schools student parking lot and we jogged quickly to the front doors.

"bye dan." louise said once we got inside, fast walking to class leaving me behind. i shouted bye back and began walking to my locker. unlike her i wanted to take my time.

the longer i took the more time i had to stall from a lecture about being late and interrupting class and doing the inevitable walk of shame to the last empty seat while everyone stares at me.

i put in my lockers combination and opened it. a small piece of paper fell out.

it was somebody's phone number.

i turned it over in my hands, on the back it read phil.
