Warm. Black Hat hated it. His mansion was unusually warm, and that was probably a result of Flug being in the mansion alone for a while. Black Hat didn't feel like thinking about Flug. He had killed Dementia, 5.0.5, Gigi, Razor Leaf.... Flug was the main object of Black Hat's hatred, but....... one small part of him said that hating him was wrong. That he should forgive. Forgive, Black Hat scoffed internally. What a moronic gesture. Give him the knowledge that he can get away with treachery?! Black Hat moved through the halls, looking for the scientist himself. Where could he have gone? The psychopath was rarely far from him, but Black Hat couldn't find him anywhere. He was so busy sulking, he almost didn't see the door on his right. It was.... too different from the rest of his mansion. He stared at it for a moment. Then two moments. Then three, and so on. The door was white, for one. It was covered in red splotches, that almost looked just like...... Blood. Black Hat knew for a fact that he had no such door when he built his mansion. He slowly drew closer to the strange object. He put his hand on the door knob. Damn, locked he thought. He suddenly perked up. There was.... sound coming from inside. Speaking. Black Hat pressed closer to the door. He could barely make out the words. "Please, I don't want.... he's in so much pain, don't..... not again, please". Black Hat was confused. Flug was killing? Again?! Black Hat was infuriated. He used his claws and sliced the door into three uneven pieces, ripping two away so he could step through the frame. The room was just as strange as the door that led to it. The walls were all different, one to the right being an oceanic scene, fish swimming around a brilliantly colored coral reef. The north wall was a city skyline at sunset, misty clouds floating around them. To the west, a graveyard at midnight, yellow glowing eyes behind a tombstone, and long, sharp claws gripping the opposite side of it. The last wall, the one Black Hat had entered from, had a mountain scene, a forest at the base of the mighty rock, and a fiery sun just rising over its peak. "Beautiful, isn't it?". Black Hat averted his gaze to a chair, directly in front of him. A person sat there, brown hair covering her eyes completely. "The yin and yangs of settings. Life-" she gestured to the ocean "death-" to the graveyard "nature-" to the mountain range "and urban" to the skyline. "Every setting has its beauty, and you must learn to appreciate all of them, I had a strong feeling that you would notice those before me. It makes for an excellent build-up". "Who the hell are you?" Black Hat questioned. The woman giggled and spoke again, the fire crackling behind her. "Sit down, Ignis". Black Hat felt enraged at the mention of his old name. "How do you-". "Just sit, and I'll tell you". The demon growled, but did not feel the urge to attack. Instead, he slowly came over to her side and sat. "Good boy, now, for my name". She reached to her left, grabbing a glass of iced coffee and taking a sip before continuing. "Call me the author". Black Hat sneered at the name. "You may not get it, but I do". "Who were you talking to in here?". "Straight to more questions, I like that". Another small sip. "Well, you haven't seen Flug all day, right?". "So you're one of his sick friends I presume?". "No, quite the opposite actually. I'm his..... sick puppet master". "What the hell are you talking about?!". Author laughed. "See for yourself". She reached to her right and snapped her fingers twice. Someone came from behind her. His bag was ripped and torn, and he stayed silent. "He was a bad little puppet, wanting to change the story. So I had to.... punish him a bit". She suddenly gripped the back of Flug's neck, forcing him to the ground. Flug yelped, but didn't dare get back up. Black Hat flinched, not liking seeing his lover thrown so harshly. "He's become very obedient, though, I can't help his incessant begging. I have grown to enjoy it though, entertaining I must say". Black Hat wanted to lunge, to attack that witch, but.... he didn't really want to. So he stayed put. "What are you doing to him?". "Nothing really except giving him orders. In fact, I've been giving you orders as well, but I never chose to visit you in person until now". "So you meant for me to find that door?". "Actually, I was controlling you, forcing you to notice my lounge and come in, I wanted to meet you". Black Hat froze. He was being controlled? But he hadn't felt anything! It was his own independent thoughts! Venroba seemed to sense his questions. "Most people who gain the power of control are sloppy with it, completely controlling your actions and words, and you yourself and people around you recognize it immediately. But," she paused, taking a drink, somehow looking less friendly (if she had looked friendly before). "If you use your powers to influence their thoughts, then the person will think that they had that idea. Like.... when Flug killed Gigi". That name made Black Hat angry. "He already hated her, but I helped him kill her. He quit listening to me when he killed Dementia, which goes to show that this technique only works when you're making them do something that isn't too different from their own personality. Becoming enraged at Flug for lying to you and betraying you would be something you'd do". Black Hat felt his heart breaking again. Flug was being controlled?! He made up his mind, this woman needed to die. He leapt from his chair and slashed his claws at her, but some invisible force sat him right back down. He looked at the woman's face. Not a scratch. "Please, let's be civil about this, hm? Can't go screwing up my plans for the end". Black Hat kept trying to free his hands, but to no avail. "What end?!" he shouted. The author laughed, taking one last sip of her coffee. "Why, my grand finale! The crescendo of your story! The final chapter! I have something good planned, but...... first you have to forget". Black Hat struggled harder but felt himself freeze up. What was she doing to him? What was she doing to Flug?! She...... her name.... what was her name again? Alexa? Aubrey? And....... why was he so upset with her? He couldn't remember meeting an Aubrey... or being angered by her. Where..... where was he? The Author giggled, seeing Black Hat frozen. She stood, taking a few steps nearer to him. He was completely frozen, waiting for orders. "You will visit your brother's house to hide from Flug, and you have no current intention of returning. Tell him of your story, and Flug's betrayal. And then wait there". Black Hat nodded, before snapping his fingers, and disappearing. The author turned around, hearing a faint sound. Flug was whimpering, holding himself while repeating, "Please, I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry, it's not my fault, it isn't me, it isn't me-". The Author gripped him by the throat. "But Fluggy dear" she said in mock sympathy, her grip tightening on his airway. The scientist spluttered and gasped, searching for relief of the torture. He was pulled closer, the Author's mouth right next to his ear.
"It is you".
