"How was school?" I asked Isaac when I picked him up from school.
"Good." He replied shortly.
"How did your math test go?" I asked him. He had insisted that he couldn't stop studying to come downstairs to eat dinner last night. Though I knew studying wasn't the main reason he didn't came down, I was hoping that there actually was a test.
"Good." He said shortly again.
"Was it hard?" I tried again, trying to get at least more then a word out of him.
"Yeah." He said.
"Do you think you did ok though?" I asked him.
"Yeah." He said again.
"Are we going to tell Dad?" I asked him. I didn't need to tell him what I was asking about. We both knew we were talking about how badly I screwed up.
"No." Isaac replied. "I'm not telling him. It's what brothers do. Keep secrets for each other."
That ended our conversation right then and there, and I felt like reality just smacked me in the face again, telling me that I wasn't getting my brother back any time soon.
