Chapter 17
Elise
I was in a fairytale. That was the only explanation as to why the room that I was currently in looked like the backdrop of Cinderella's ballroom. There were intricate carvings all along the roof of the ballroom, with heavy draped curtains pulled back to show the snow falling outside, and marble pillars that were wrapped in fairy lights. In one corner there was a massive tree decorated with all the ornaments imaginable and wrapped presents layed underneath it.
I wonder if there was anything in there...
"Elise! You look gorgeous!" Clair called out from behind me.
I looked away from the scenery to see her coming towards me. She was wearing a dress that I noticed to also be in Dani's fashion line. It was a floor length pale lilac colored dress with short capped sleeves. There wasn't much detail, but it looked stunning on Clair.
"Me? You look amazing!" I cried out which made Clair blush.
"Oh, stop it," she waved a hand at me, "Do you like the decorating? Lexi spent hours going over it with a planner," she told me.
I looked back at the festive decorations that hung all along the ceiling and wall. If this room didn't get you in the Christmas spirit, than nothing would.
"It's awesome," I mumbled, staring at the lights that twinkled all over the room.
"That's good," Clair smiled at me, "You should go get Jace, he's probably whole up in his room. He doesn't like these balls all that much," she told me.
I nodded and exited the room to go back down the hallway I took to get there. As I walked around the house, I remembered that I didn't even know where Jace's room was in this house, let alone that he had a room in this house.
I somehow managed to make it to the second floor without getting lost and from there I listened for the sound of music. It seemed like the best guess for me. Sure enough I found a room at the end of one of the hallways and the strumming of a guitar reached my ears.
When I opened the door I saw Jace sitting on a desk chair, feet propped on a desk, and a guitar in his hands. He hummed softly to the tune he was playing, lost in the sound of his music. He was wearing a dress shirt with the few top buttons open and dress pants, but the bare feet and ruly hair that he always had showed that he hadn't finished dressing yet.
He looked so peaceful there, in his element, that it was hard to imagine that he ever had anything wrong go on in his life. Or that he once hated me with a passion. Which I could understand, but I was happy he didn't hate me anymore, because it wouldn't be very good to have a crush on someone who hated you.
"Are you going to stand there for the rest of tonight?" Jace sang out, swiveling his chair to look at me.
His eyes widened as they looked at me. My heart began to thump loudly in my chest. Was he shocked? Did he like it? Did he think I looked like an ogre? I hope not.
I smiled sheepishly, trying to ignore the butterflies in my stomach as he kept his gaze trained on me, "Well, if you keep singing, then I will..."
He laughed, his brown eyes sparking to life, "Sorry, no can do. I have to play the piano basically all night," he frowned in distaste.
I walked into the room and sat on the edge of the bed, sinking a few good inches into the mattress, "Are you going to finish getting ready?"
Jace sighed and ran a hand through his hair, making it more messy that it was before, "I guess..."
