Lauren's POV

"Babe, come on. I want to make it there before the sun goes down." I try to coax Camila to put her phone down and get out of the car so we can finally get down to the sand. She doesn't budge, still typing away on the little device that carries so much meaning in everyday life. "Who are you texting anyways?" She finally looks up and acknowledges me. "I'm sorry. My sister texted me and she almost never does, so I figured it was important." I raise my eyebrow, as she rarely mentions her sister. "What did she say?" I ask intrigued.

"I don't really know, she just asked if we could talk and I asked her what she needed." Almost on queue, her phone starts ringing and a picture of younger Camila with what looks like a mini version of herself pops up. "You take that. I'll go on a little walk over there and you can meet up with me when you're done talking." She didn't have to say anything, I know she was concerned and needed to take the call.

After a few minutes of strolling, I see her exit the car, and I make my way back to her. "Is everything alright?" We finally get close enough to each other to hold hands, so I grasp hers in mine. "I'm sorry, I know this was our day, but I have to go. Can you bring me back to my dorm?" The lack of details left me confused, but I obviously agree without questioning it.

After several minutes of sitting in silence, I can't take it anymore. "What happened? Did I do something wrong? Is she okay?" My mind is reeling, but she notices and takes my free hand in hers. "Everything is alright, I think. You did nothing wrong and I feel bad that I just ruined our day. I need to go get Sofi."

"I can drive you, there's no need to bring you all the way back to the dorm. That way, we'll still be together for the day and save time on the drive." She shook her head, "I can't ask you to do that, it's at least a forty minute drive and-" Before she says anything else, I insist once more and she reluctantly agrees to let me drive her.

The drive was fairly silent, despite the music that was playing and a few words being exchanged. I pulled into the unfamiliar driveway as a younger girl approached the car. Camila was quick to get out to greet her. After a hug, the two got in the car and I began the drive back home.

"So this is the Lauren you always talk about. She's really pretty like you said." I couldn't help but grin slightly and glance at my girlfriend. "Sofi!" She scolded her sister and the pink tint on her cheeks brightened. "What? You always talk about her when we're together. Do you have any other friends that you don't have an obvious crush on?" My girlfriend threw her hands up to her face in embarrassment and I laughed. "I talk about my other friends too. I've told you about the rest of our group." She attempted to defend herself, but Sofi was quick to respond once more. "It always comes back to Lauren though. 'Lauren this, Lauren that, she's so funny', blah blah blah."

"Lauren, can you turn around or kick her out? I don't want to rescue her anymore." I ignore her pleas and continue driving. "Whatever, she is not allowed to talk to Dinah. She's already enough of an asshole as it is."

"Not be rude or ungrateful, but why is Lauren with us? Did I interrupt something when I called?" The youngest questioned. "We had plans to hang out for the day since she finally took off from work. We just got to the beach when you called, but she offered to drive." I have no clue if Sofi has just been teasing her sister or actually knows about us dating, so I let Camila do all the talking. We haven't discussed that aspect of our relationship too much. "You are always at the beach together. Lauren, did you know that most of the pictures on her phone are pictures of you? A lot of them are at the beach, too. I think she's obsessed with you or something" This girl is ruthless and I decide to join in. "What all does she say about me?"

"Well, we haven't talked since Thanksgiving and didn't get much of a chance to discuss you then, so it's been a few months since it has happened. Around August or September is when she got really obsessed with you, I think that's right around when you met. She said that you were dating this guy that didn't seem right for you. Always talked about your eyes, which I haven't gotten a chance to look at because of those glasses. Kaki told me how smart you are and that you're her best friend. I know I've been teasing her a lot today, but she really does care about you. I don't know what she's told you about our past few years, but you helped her through a bad time and she's really happy to have you as a friend."

Damn. That girl has a way with words. I have no idea how to respond to that, so many parts of her speech are replaying in my head. My thoughts keep returning to one place- I actually mean something to her. Yes, it's a selfish thought; but I've had past insecurities about not being loved and leaving my heart in somebody's hands that still haunt me. I've built up a security system for myself to not allow myself to fully fall for somebody based mostly on my previous relationship. I didn't know that it was possible, but I instantly felt like I was falling even further for the brunette sitting next to me.

I'm sorry, it's been a while. I was looking forward to writing a lot over winter break, but I got really sick and the meds left me feeling like a zombie most of the time. I'm feeling much better now, thankfully it was during break and I didn't miss any class. I'm off to a three hour physics lecture in an hour (eww, lol). Thanks for being patient and supportive of my story. I hope you had a great time over the holidays and happy new year!
