I know you like unhappy endings but with the McCree one, I couldn't go through that again so you're kinda forced to deal with some happiness at the end!
It happened faster than anyone could process it. You were fighting on the battlefield alongside Angela and Reinhardt, when all of a sudden a helix rocket exploded against your chest. You flew backwards in slow motion, the world rocking around you as you faded into unconsciousness.
Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
You woke to the sound of a heart monitor keeping track of the rhythm of your heart. No one was in the room with you and you couldn't help but wonder where they had gone. You sat up, a cry of pain escaping your lips as you felt an explosion of agony rip through your chest.
The door swung open and Angela walked in, wearing regular scrubs instead of her combat outfit. She assessed you momentarily as you laid there, taking shallow breaths to avoid hurting yourself again.
"Breathe and relax," she spoke softly as she helped you into a slightly more comfortable position. "You're going to reopen your wounds."
"What happened?" You asked softly, not even sure if you really wanted to answer. Angela paused for a moment, looking at the floor as though it would provide her a better answer than the truth.
"When we were out in the field," she paused again, a heavy sigh working its way from her lungs. "Jack fired a helix rocket that went astray and hit you instead of its intended target."
"A-ah," you acknowledged her words but couldn't muster anything else at the moment. So Jack was the one who had sentenced you to this unintentional medical emergency. You listened to the heart monitor as it continued on its way, beeping in time with your heartbeat.
"Angela I-," the door opened just enough for you to see Jack poke his head in, but the moment he noticed you were away, he ducked back out without even finishing his sentence.
"Coward," you hissed half heartedly. You weren't mad at him unintentionally hitting you with the rocket. It was an accident, albeit unfortunate, but accident happen in the field of war and there was no reason to hold them against anyone.
No, you weren't mad at him about what happened, you were mad that he was avoiding you now. Like he just wished he could forget you even existed to escape the feelings he was overwhelmed with.
"Jack!" You called out, much to your displeasure as your wounds ached in tune with your breathing. When he didn't come back, you huffed angrily and threw the thin bedding off of you.
You planted your feet as firmly on the ground as you could and forced yourself into a standing position, a soft cry of pain escaping your lips.
"(Y/N)," Angela warned, coming towards you to get you back into your bed. "You'll reopen your wounds."
"Thank you Ziegler but I need to do this and if it results in more bed rest, then so be it," you side stepped her but she got in your face again. "You know what I'm capable of Angela and I really don't want to hurt you just to do this simple task."
You words sunk in that time and she sighed before nodding and allowing you to pass her. Leaning heavily on the wall as you went, you made your way out of the clinic room and down the hall towards Jack's office.
"Listen up Morrison!" You threw his office door open and stormed in to his desk, walking passed Reyes and the rest of the Blackwatch team as though they weren't even there. "You had better stop avoiding me right fuckin now and man up for what you've done before I kick your teeth in right here, right now."
All parties in the room seemed to be stunned into silence as you stood in front of Jack, one hand on his desk and the other on your wound. Jack pinched the bridge of his nose before waving his hand dismissively.
"Everyone but (Y/L/N), out," his words were simple but the men followed orders and evacuated the room as quick as they could, hoping to avoid an awkward fight between you and the boss. "What?" He stared you down, his eyes meeting yours with a somewhat uncaring glint.
"What the hell do you mean 'what' Morrison?" You slammed one of your hands on his desk again, for further emphasis. "You shot me with a freakin helix rocket and don't even have the dignity to show up and say 'hey, sorry bout shooting you in the fucking chest and almost killing you'?"
"(Y/N), listen-," he tried to reply but you rolled right over it.
"Not even a get well soon card. You would think for someone who pretends to care about his soldiers as much as you do would at least splurge on some flowers or some shit," as you continued to ramble, Jack stood from his seat and took two long strides over to you. With one hand, he reached up and covered your mouth to keep your from speaking.
"Listen," his eyes suddenly didn't seem so cold. "I didn't come visit you because I-I couldn't face the fact that I was the one who had put you in that medical ward. It killed me, to see you hurt like that and to know it was my fault." You pushed his hand away before responding.
"Why? I've been hurt plenty of times."
"And every time it hurts just as much because," he sighed softly. "I love you, (Y/N)." Tears brimmed quickly in your eyes as a faint blush rose to your cheeks. A soft giggle escaped your lips and you leaned forward just enough to plant a kiss on his cheek.
"I love you too Jack."
