Moonkit stumbled over her tail as she raced across the clearing, Icekit and Shadekit hard on her tail. Icekit was right behind her; so close that she could feel her breath on her haunches. She slowed down as she reached the medicine cat's den, and pushed her way inside. "Hi Sunkit!" She mewed cheerfully.

Sunkit was already awake and grooming her pelt. "Hi." She meowed quietly. She looked away, trying to hide her gaze. Moonkit caught her breath, and hastily flattened her white chest fur with her tongue, not meeting Sunkit's gaze, noticing her dull behavior right away.

"Hi!" Icekit, who obviously hadn't sensed the sad aura surrounding the ThunderClan kit, mewed, bouncing up and down. Shadekit, being the shyer of the three littermates, was silent.

Sunkit's hind paw as awkwardly sprawled behind her, while her other paws were neatly tucked beneath her.

Icekit, who was still oblivious, jumped up and down excitedly. "Let's play moss ball." Shadekit's ears pricked. Moonkit knew that it was because he liked hunting games.

Moonkit dashed off to get a ball of moss, and after finding one, raced back. She hooked it with a razor sharp claw and tossed it up into the air. Quick as lightning, Shadekit snatched it up, causing Icekit to pout. "No fair!" Shadekit let out a purr of amusement and hurtled it up into the air again. Sunkit settled down onto her moss-and-twig bed to watch them play.

Moonkit grabbed the ball gently between her teeth. She threw it up in the air, causing it to fly towards Sunkit. Sunkit sighed and stood. She winced as a her weight fell onto her paw. A twig from her nest ripped the cobweb around her paw. Sunkit quickly sat down again, as if hiding something. In a sitting position, Sunkit clenched the ball in her teeth and threw it to Icekit.

Icekit and Shadekit squealed in delight and chased it, but Moonkit stayed where she was. "Are you okay?" She tried to keep the concern out of her voice, since she hated it when Frostfire asked her that, and thought that the ThunderClan cat may too.

Sunkit slowly held out her paw. Dried blood encrusted the wound, and a sticky poultice was plastered onto her fur. She glanced around to make sure the other kits were occupied and out of earshot. That's when Moonkit noticed that on her paw was one missing toe.

She looked into Sunkit's dull hazel eyes, which were full of pain. They shared a silent conversation. "I'm crippled." Sunkit murmured. "So?"Moonkit whispered back. "How can I serve my clan?" She said sadly. "How can you not?" Moonkit shot back. "What will my clan think?" "Does it matter what they think?" She replied fiercely. Sunkit shook her head, ending the conversation.

Icekit tramped back, her eyes full of gloating, and held up the moss ball triumphantly. "I got it!" She squealed. Moonkit purred with amusement.

"Do you want to hear a story from Ravenpelt? He's almost healed!" Sunkit perked up at that comment.

"Ravenpelt! Ravenpelt! Tell us a story!"

Ravenpelt let out a grunt as the kits raced towards his nest in the medicine cat's den. "What do you want to hear about, young ones?"

Shadekit glanced at Sunkit. "Any suggestions?" Moonkit snorted. He was always the softest of the litter.

Sunkit purred. "The battle between the clans and the Dark Forest. My favorite." Ravenpelt settled down in a comfortable position. Moonkit crouched down into a perfect battle crouch, waiting. "Well. The Place of No Stars is a place where evil cats go from the clans, when they have been denied by StarClan. They started recruiting living cats from all four clans. Secretly training them at night, making the stronger and more battle hungry."

Moonkit's tail quivered in delight, anticipating the rest of the story. This was her favorite story! Sunkit shuddered next to her.

"They were led by the evilest cats." Ravenpelt continued. "Such as Thistleclaw, ThunderClan's once great warrior, bitter from the noble Bluestar being chosen over him. Tigerstar, who swore vengeance on the famous Firestar. Darkstripe, killed by Firestar's loyal friend, Graystripe. Brokenstar, ShadowClan's former evil leader, who tried to wipe out the clans. Mapleshade, a ThunderClan cat who swore revenge, driven by grief and anger, rejected by two clans and her family. And many, many more."

Icekit sat down, wrapping her fluffy white tail neatly over her paws.

"They attacked on a dark night, turning clans against each other, showing no mercy. It was clanmate against clanmate. Sibling against sibling. Leader against warrior." Leader against warrior. How can a warrior go against their leader?

"Finally, Firestar united the clans," Sunkit puffed out her chest in pride. "And StarClan came down to fight as well. Spottedleaf, ThunderClan's beautiful, former medicine cat, gave her life for Sandstorm, Firestar's mate."

Moonkit flattened her ears. How dare the Dark Forest do such a thing! Sunkit glared at Moonkit so she would stop distracting her, even though she looked angry, too. Moonkit flattened her ears even more, so that they were flat against her head, and Sunkit turned back towards Ravenpelt.

"Yellowfang, ShadowClan and ThunderClan's former medicine cat, killed her own son again, Brokenstar, saving many cats from his ruthlessness. But Ferncloud, Dustpelt's mate, was killed defending kits. Finally, the battle seemed to be over, but Tigerstar appeared. Firestar bravely fought him to the death, and killed Tigerstar once and for all. But that cost him his life."

Brave. For a ThunderClan cat. Would I do that for my clan? Well, duh! Why wouldn't I?

"Firestar was a brave ThunderClan cat and will be honored forever by all four clans. He saved the forest many times over, and earned his place in history." Ravenpelt's gaze sweeper through them. "Maybe you will too."

Moonkit quivered in excitement. Hunger lit her gaze. Then she noticed Sunkit looking at her, and pushed it away. She would have time to sort out her feelings later.

"Thank you Ravenpelt." Shadekit mewed. Ravenpelt purred. "Anytime little kits."

Moonkit stumbled into her nest, exhausted. I will earn my place in history! She thought. I will be the greatest ShadowClan leader ever!

Moonkit: I'm pretty sure you're also supposed to say, 'Have a nice winter break.'

Jenny: Oh. Okay. What Moonkit said.

Moonkit: Ha. I'm still a kit and I know more than you. >:)
