Moonpaw yawned, letting the sunlight warm her pelt. Icepaw was neatly grooming her fur, and Shadepaw just blinked sleepily. "Why do they make us go on the dawn patrol?" He grumbled. "Because we need to defend our clan from intruders!" She answered proudly. She smoothed down her fur, which was no longer fluffy and soft, but neat and slick.

Badgerclaw poked his head through the entrance. "Ready?" Moonpaw swiped her paw over her ears. "Yup." The three siblings trotted out of the den. The cold air ambushed them, making Moonpaw sneeze. Icepaw twitched her whiskers, and Shadepaw flicked his ear. "Are you coming?"

Badgerclaw, Lizardleap, and Willowear were waiting for them. They padded into the woods, Badgerclaw in the lead. Willowear took the rear, occasionally glancing over her shoulder. Lizardleap slowed down her pace so she could walk next to the apprentices.

"Your first dawn patrol!" She purred. "What do you think?" Moonpaw observed the pine trees, swaying gently in the breeze. It was quiet. A peaceful quietness everywhere. "The forest seems so different at dawn." Moonpaw commented. Shadepaw pricked his ears. "Do you hear that?"

Moonpaw strained her ears. A faint sound of rustling entered them. The fur on her spine lifted uneasily. Icepaw was growling faintly. Willowear had caught up to them, and whispered urgently with Lizardleap. Badgerclaw slunk back. "What is it?" "Intruders!" Badgerclaw listened. "Moonpaw, I don't hear-" "She's absolutely right." A chilling voice meowed.

Cats exploded from the undergrowth. Moonpaw snarled and leapt at the nearest. A pitch black she-cat with amber eyes. She looks like Fangkit. At the last second, Moonpaw dove down, raking her claws through the she-cat's underbelly. She yowled in pain, and raced back into the woods.

"Moonpaw!" Icepaw was battling a huge white tom, rolling around in a hissing bundle of white. Without wasting a second, she leapt onto the white tom's back. Shadepaw joined her, and the three of them drove the tom back into the forest. With a bloodcurdling screech, he disappeared into the pines.

Lizardleap and Willowear were fighting off three angry rogues, doing pretty well. But where was Badgerclaw?

She turned around at the sound of hissing, and took a step back. Badgerclaw was facing the biggest rouge, most likely the leader, blood dripping from multiple wounds. "You dare attack ShadowClan?" He snarled, but he was swaying on his paws. The leader laughed, his laugh sending a shiver up her spine. "I will finish you off slowly, so you can see the death of your trainee!"

The leader turned towards Moonpaw, teeth bared. Moonpaw felt her pelt turn to ice, but her voice came out strong. "Icepaw, Shadepaw, get Badgerclaw back to the camp and tell them what happened. I'll hold him off." Icepaw's eyes were wide with fear. "We can't leave you! What if-" "You have to trust me." Icepaw nodded and raced over to Badgerclaw, Shadepaw right behind. Together, they ran towards the camp. "Stop them!" The leader howled. StarClan, she prayed. Don't let my littermates lead the rogues to the camp.

The leader turned his blazing eyes on Moonpaw. "You fool!" He howled. "Now you will all die!" Well, you kind of made it clear that we were going to die either way. Moonpaw dodged to the right as the leader leapt at her. "Give me your best forest cat." Moonpaw held steady, waiting for him to attack. I want to determine how fast he is. She found that out quick enough. The huge tom lunged at her, fast as lightning.

She stepsided, and reared up on her hind legs, lashing out with her front paws. Her favorite battle move. He reared up to meet her, but his hind paws shook at the effort. Every blow he landed, she struck back. He was bigger than her, but she used that as her advantage. Anything he put out, she turned it into a disadvantage for him. Moonpaw kept on swiping, fury welling up inside of her.

She aimed a well swiped blow to his eye. The leader staggered back, hissing in pain, eye swollen. His other eye blazed in hatred. "Don't think this is over!" He snarled. "Oh, it's not." He glared at her. "Retreat!"

Lizardleap rushed down to her. "Moonpaw! You were amazing!" Moonpaw nodded, pleased. Blood trickled down her torn ears and cheek, full of sharp pain, but she ignored it. "Let's go report to Darkstar."

A/N:

Moonpaw: Am I going to get a new mentor?

Jenny: We'll see.

Moonpaw: But I want to know!

Jenny: It depends on the author's tone when writing the story, and the mood they want the readers to be in.

Moonpaw: Huh?

Jenny: Just something I did in Language Arts at school. XD

Moonpaw: What's-

Jenny: Moving on!

Moonpaw: ... But why—
