"Icepaw, wake up!" Moonpaw gently nipped her sister's feather soft ear. "Battle training, remember?" Icepaw blinked sleepily. "Okay. I'll be up in a moment."
As the sisters trotted out of the apprentice den, their mentors Badgerclaw and Lizardleap walked over to meet them. "Ready?" Lizardleap purred. Moonpaw kneaded the ground in excitement and anticipation. "You bet!"
As they made their way to the training grounds, Moonpaw picked up a trail of a mouse. She started to go after it, when Badgerclaw's meow interrupted her. "We're not hunting. Leave it be." Moonpaw let out a sigh of disappointment and followed her mentor and sister.
Badgerclaw turned around. "We're going to work on defense first." He meowed. "Watch us." Badgerclaw and Lizardleap faced each other, teeth bared. Badgerclaw leapt forward, charging at Lizardleap. Right before he barreled into her, Lizardleap slipped aside, trying to dodge. Quick as a snake, Badgerclaw jumped, twisted in the air, and landed on Lizardleap's back.
"That was amazing!" Icepaw gasped. Lizardleap purred. "If you ever face ThunderClan in battle, they'll try to dodge your blows. Then you can surprise them." Moonpaw shifted uncomfortably. What if that ThunderClan cat is Sunpaw? Moonpaw shook her head. Even if I did face ThunderClan, she chided herself. I would never target Sunpaw and her littermates on purpose. But would Sunpaw?
"Now, let's teach you offense." Lizardleap meowed, snapping Moonpaw out of her thoughts. "Moonpaw, attack me." Moonpaw studied the she-cat, noting how she was standing with a little more weight on her right leg. She leapt at her left leg, catching her off guard. Weaving between her legs, she managed to make Lizardleap trip. She jumped out of the way so she wouldn't get crushed. Then she leapt on the older cat's back, claws unsheathed so she wouldn't fall off, but not enough to hurt her. Lizardleap rolled over, attempting to crush Moonpaw, but she leapt clear just in time.
"Excellent!" Lizardleap purred. "Great thinking!" Moonpaw glanced anxiously at Badgerclaw, who was nodding in approval. "That's a great move when you ever face a cat bigger than you." Icepaw purred and rubbed her head affectionately against her sister's shoulder. "Great job!" She said between purrs. Moonpaw shuffled her paws in embarrassment. I'm glad I'm in ShadowClan.
A/N: Once again, thank you for your patience. I will be going before you have to put up with Moonpaw.
