Everyone has an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other. They give advice, help guide their human through life. They tempt, they listen, they offer help. Everyone has one of each.
Everyone except for Elias.
Elias' devil was always strong. It wasn't the typical evil, not like the biblical devils were shown to be, at least not toward Elias. It encouraged him to get into trouble, to have fun, but never to the determent of himself. Others, yes, but Elias' angel and devil both agreed on one thing and that's keeping Elias safe.
Elias' angel was always frustrated. It struggled to remind Elias to be patient, to be careful. Elias didn't want to be patient or careful, and his devil knew that. His devil thrived on that. He struggled to remind Elias to do the right thing when Elias and the devil were in agreement that there wasn't always one 'right thing', and that the 'right thing' often was the wrong thing.
They fought, his angel and his devil, all the time, with sharp words and sharper nails. They never stopped sniping at each other, except for one day when Elias was fifteen. They were both silent when his mother died. They were silent while Elias wailed and screamed. They were silent while Isaac wasn't there. They were silent except for when Elias talked to them, because one thing they both understood was loss.
When Aaron finally showed up with the car, Isaac immediately leaped into the driver seat. Aaron didn't object but he was clearly upset about it, he loved his car too much to let other people drive it.
Elias sat silently in the back, listening to his devil debating with his angel rather to call the cops to report the bodies in the Taylor's house or not.
The debate stopped immediately when Isaac's phone rang, all ears were now listening.
"Finally!" Isaac scoffed "what were you doing?"
What's is the urgent matter Harper? Clay asked annoyed.
"You know the house across the sheriff's? I need you to check out the crime scene."
Crime scene? Right in front of your old house. Do you think someone was trying to send you a message?
"No, this was more like a sudden murder." Isaac sighed "Anyways, there's some shape shifter's skin all over the place so if you can just call the cleaners."
Yes of course, I am on my way there.
"Thanks." Isaac said before hanging up.
"What's 'the cleaners'?" Elias piped in right away. "Are you planning to temper with a crime scene?"
Isaac smirked, quite proud of his son's observing abilities. "We're not tempering with anything, we're just making it a little mundane."
"How's that not tempering?" the boy taunted "Just so you know, if the deputies question me, I'm gonna point fingers right at your face."
"Snitches get stitches." Isaac chuckled. "I don't think you would anyways."
Elias blinked "Oh yeah? Why is that?"
"Aren't you intrigued?" Isaac asked in a playful tone "If I go to prison, who's gonna teach you about the other world's mysteries?"
"Oh he's dying for it" Aaron spoke in his behalf.
Elias cleared his throat "Where are we going anyways?"
"Where's going to track the shape shifter." Isaac answered automatically "There's a clinic about a mile from here, we start from there."
"What about the person we were going to see?"
"Oh change of plans, sorry for the late notice." He said scratching the back of his head.
Elias didn't say anything, finding the shape shifter that's been messing with them seemed way interesting then meeting some guy.

It was a little after nine a.m when she pulled up to the back of the Saint Abais clinic. Tessa looked around for a moment but didn't see the slender figure she was waiting for and she couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. Except she knew she shouldn't be. The man didn't exactly give her a time. Part of her wonders if maybe that was on purpose, that he didn't really want to see her after all. But most of her didn't think that was true. It has been about two weeks since they actually talked face to face. And she didn't think he hated her or anything like that, that would justify him going out of his way to avoid her.
With a deep breath, she stepped out of her car, then picked up the tray from her passenger's seat carefully and started toward the door.
Dan heard her car pull into the drive before he actually saw her, and he smiled softly as he turns to see her walking inside the clinic. "Morning," he said, eyes full of familiar warmth. His gaze darted to the tray she was carrying and he raised his eyebrows.
Three cups of coffee.
"Mia's not here until this afternoon," he told her, assuming the third cup was for her.
"Oh, I guess we'll just have to find better use for the coffee, then," she said, smiling softly. He clearly didn't know her knight in shining armor was coming, so she knew she needed to control her anxiety and try her best to make sure he didn't pick up on anything.
If he noticed anything, he didn't mention it. "So? You didn't tell me, what brings you here?" he asked as he thanked her and took one of the cups of coffee.
"I'm meeting someone," she says quietly. "Someone very dear to me."
"Oh jee I wonder who that is." Mia said as she came creeping from the back.
"Hey, long time no see." Tessa told her, expression brightening. "Come here." She opens up her arms.
"Ew like that would ever happen." Mia rolled her eyes "s'cuse me." She pushed between them to take a cup of coffee.
"Didn't you say you were not coming early in the morning?" Dan accused, stepping aside.
"Surprise!" she joked bitterly, lifting the cup toward him. "Who brought it?"
"I did, don't worry it's de-caf." Tessa jumped with a smile.
"Argh, what's up with you?" Mia asked with a disgusted face "What did you eat last night? sunshine and rainbows."
"Better," Tessa bit her lower lip, but she couldn't hold it any longer. "Isaac is coming to meet us!"
