Austin and I didn't make a statement  to move a muscle, our eyes still locked in the moment. Blinking, I made an effort to speak. "Don't you think we should go?"

Austin shrugged slightly, pushing himself off the wall, sparing me one last look,  before he was off. I stayed back, to try and compose myself in more of an orderly fashion before I found myself downstairs.

It was almost October now, and the air was getting quite chilly. I pulled on a large sweater, with black leggings and converse, setting my phone to silent, before I stowed it away in my designer purse.

I could already hear Austin's pronounced voice before I was halfway down the stairs. "Quit staring at me," I mumbled, when his gaze fell on me, he said nothing in response, instead turning to Jason, who was wiping off the counters like a good little boy.

Just kidding old man

" where exactly are we going?" Jason glanced up, meeting his sons eyes. I attempted to look like I wasn't prying in their conversation but can you blame me. "Quit staring at me," Austin reached over, elbowing me in the side. I squeaked loudly at the impact, moving my chair away like a little kid. Austin just laughed, but turned back to his dad.

" A drive in movie and dinner for my birthday."

" you forgot it was your dads birthday," I poked him in the back in return, laughing quite obnoxiously. " good old Austin forgot it was his dad's birthday. Happy birthday to you happy birthday to you happy birthday dear Jason happy birthday to you."

" don't sing, it's not one of your talents." Austin pulled on one of his shoes, scrubbing a hand through his hair, before hopping out of his seat.

" that wasn't very nice, I found it quite refreshing compared to your voice," Jason grinned, which earned a laugh from me, because that was quite a burn right there. I never thought Jason was the one to come up with a sarcastic line.

" you must have something wrong with your ears Dad," Austin called rounding the corner to the laundry room. Before I came here I thought Farmers hung their clothes up on laundry lines and waited for them to dry. Thank goodness they don't.

" but really, happy birthday," I grinned, feeling guilty that nobody had told me and I didn't even have a gift for him. However, my jaw nearly dropped when Austin came back out, holding the smallest package I had ever seen.

" I wouldn't be saying that about my voice ever again after this," Austin mumbled, placing a small wrapped weird shaped thing in his dad's hands. With interested eyes I watched him tear the paper off, to see a single key on a key ring.

" what is the key for?" I asked, standing up and going around the table to admire it myself, the dogs following In toe. Austin moved a bit so I could stand closer, not enough though, every time he moved an inch, his shoulder would brush mine, doing crazy things to my teenage mind.
