He never came.

I sat there, and he never came, but who am I kidding, I wasn't supposed to want him to anyway.

Jason had come home late last night, but I had already gone to bed, the shadows in my room putting me into an uneasy slumber.

Morning came far to fast, I lay there half wishing that Austin would come in and wake me up as he used to. I had taken so many things for granted, my father, and the friends and family who cared about me. How could I have been so stupid.

Arching my back as to brush off the last bits of sleep, I listened for any trace of people who may not be awake yet. Hearing nothing, I glanced down at my phone, it was 7:04 AM.

Surprisingly I wasn't that tired, as I flung out of bed, maybe I could make breakfast or something. I let my feet hit the floor, striding over to the window, Maine definitely was beautiful.

I eyed the large barn as it sat amongst the many trees, in a way, that was where things kind of ended. Blinking, I caught a sight of a person outside, that was working in the yard fixing one of the fences, it was Austin, his back was toward me, but I didn't mind watching him, Especially since he decided to not wear a shirt.

"Good morning Bri," I abruptly turned from the window when I heard Jason's voice. I shoved my hands into my pajama pockets, shifting from foot to foot, I hadn't seen him since I had left for California, almost 9 months ago.

He hovered in the doorway, eyeing me with that calculating yet calm expression on his face. He had always been a piece maker in the family, especially last time I was here.

"I am sorry I came back late and stuff, I can make breakfast and stuff." I noted, not knowing what to say. I wove my hands together, casting my eyes at the ground. Jason turned down the hall, his footsteps echoing down the stairs.

I chewed the inside of my cheek, exhaling as I had to made my way down the stairs. Just ignore him, you can do this, people are not that scary, if you don't talk to Austin he won't talk to you.

When I entered the kitchen, I didn't expect to see Austin seated at the table, he wasn't eating, instead he was staring at his dad, as though he were expecting his dad to chew him out or something.

I said nothing, my stomach twisting into a million knots as I took the seat at the end of the counter farthest away from his.

"Good morning to you too," Austin mumbled under his breath, pulling out his phone, I'm guessing to fake text and show me his worthless I was to him.

"I've got to go see my girlfriend," he dragged out the last work for emphasis, to both me and Jason. I guess Jason was on my side, shooting me a sorrowful look before placing a bowl of oatmeal in front of me.

Rolling my eyes, I ignored him as he scrambled up, racing out of the house, if he wasn't going to give me the time of the day, welcome to the club, because I wasn't as well.

Jason scratched the back of his head, shoveling down his own breakfast, why did I feel that everyone in this household was keeping something from me.

"Why are you all acting so weird?" I asked, darting my eyes around the room, just before the doorbell cut through my words.

Literally saved by the bell

"I well gotta get that," Jason stated, jerking his head toward the door, whatever whatever, I'm leaving.

"Go ahead," I growled back, tossing my dish into the sink, I know when I am not needed, and even by you. I turned my back, however when I heard a voice that sounded oddly familiar, I stopped in my tracks.
