Jason's POV
Flashback
"Hey I'm here, so are you sure she is gonna just be sitting there, she won't try and run off." I heard Caleb's voice through the phone, he sounded stressed at the least.
"She should just be sitting in the seats where the people wait when they get off the flight, do you see her?" I looked around the room for the hundredth time, trying to see someone I might have missed before.
That's when I laid eyes on her, sitting all alone, slumped in a seat, her hair hanging in her face, as she Angerly scroll through her phone, her carry-on bag at her feet. She looked so lost, so broken, sitting there.
A part of me wanted to leave her here, after all, I knew what she had done. My wife, the love of my life had passed away in a car accident six months ago, and this girl had been there in the other car when it happened.
She had gotten off free because she hadn't been driving, her boyfriend spending a few months in a home for driving under the influence. Now I would have to look into her eyes, and see her as a constant reminder of what I had lost.
I knew however, that it wasn't her fault. She wasn't the one who had killed my wife but my heart still longs for just one more goodbye, I hadn't even had a chance to tell my love how much I cared about her before she vanished.
" are you Brianna Clarkson?" I walked over to her, her dark eyes lifting to take my appearance in, her expression didn't change. She looked back down again shaking her head in an annoyed way.
" your father couldn't pick you up so I am doing it," I stated," hoping she would just get up, I didn't blame her for being nervous, after all she had never seen me before. Caleb have never been one for good communication and I guess she didn't know that I was coming.
We walked, making small talk, most of her lines were in a sarcastic tone as we raced out to the truck I let my mind wander back to before I had come to this airport, and my conversation with my son Austin.
"His daughter is coming to live with us," Austin pulled his hiking bag over his shoulders, glancing at his phone. I nodded, Reading his expression. He didn't look pleased, but he also didn't look too angry about it.
"Is she hot," he question, an embarrassed smirk taking over his features. I grinned at him, knowing that was what he was going to ask next.
" you will have to see for yourself, but I don't think Caleb would be too happy with you dating his daughter especially when you live so close by."
He just shrugs, turning out the door before looking back at me, " well I am going to hang out with Amber for a bit see you later." Frowning I followed him out the door, he really needed to commit himself to one girl instead of getting 5000 at a time. But I know it was how he took his mind off of his mother.
" you can't bury yourself forever you know you are going to have to face the fact of your mother sooner or later you can't keep putting your emotions off Austin." He said nothing trailing off down the road before he disappeared around the corner.

Present day
"Caleb, what would you like for dinner?" I questioned, things have grown increasingly silence over the past week and a half. Austin didn't come out of his room much, his eyes lifeless, closeted by dark circles. He had to drown himself and his studies, not saying a work to me all day.
We have never been incredibly close, but we had also never went like this where we didn't speak a word to each other for countless hours.
"Austin, it's time for dinner, what do you like pizza or Chinese?" I walked down the hall gazing at him. He just shrugged, shutting the computer off, turning in the Office chair to face me. " do you always have to go around the house with no shirt on? You know she isn't here anymore," I knew it wasn't a time to joke right now but I knew it had to be said.
He didn't laugh, instead he just shrugged in response, staring blankly at the wall in thought. I had no idea what he could possibly be thinking about, but I assumed it was Brianna. " she really meant that much to you?" I leaned against the wall, studying him.
He sighed, turning away from me to eye the darkened computer screen, his shoulders hanging lazily. "I don't really want to talk about it." He grumbled, scrubbing a hand through his messy hair.
"She didn't tell you did she," I stated, placing my hands behind my head. He turned to me, his eyes now blustering with emotion. His jaw pulced, his hands balled together.
"How did you know?" He rose from the chair, taking his whole 6 foot two height.
"I knew even before she came, I just wanted her to tell you herself, she wanted to tell you Austin, I could tell." His expression dropped, and he went back to his closed off attitude.
"I'll have pizza," he stated, walking out. I nodded, before dialing the number to order the food. Austin needed help, and he needed it right away.
