Six months later
"Congratulations Brianna, you have been excepted into Long Beach state university." I grinned upon reading those words, I had worked so hard over the past year to put my life back together, and finally I would be moving onto a new chapter of my life.
"I'm so proud of you," my mom grinned, throwing her arms around me. I nodded, shooting her a sincere smile.
"A week and you'll be heading off to college." I beamed, for once feeling that I was starting a chapter in my life that wouldn't end badly.
I hoped!
I gobbled up the rest of my dinner, not even dismissing myself as I dashed off to my bedroom.
My mother appeared in my doorway, dusting off her hands, as she took in my half boxed up room. "My baby is growing up," her voice was strained, as though she wanted to say something else but couldn't bring herself to.
"I guess so," I shot back, tucking my old yearbooks into a bin. My moms eyes flashed with something, an emotion I couldn't place.
"You don't need to bring those," she mumbled, hoping that my next words wouldn't come, but they fell out of my mouth like poison.
"I won't be coming back, I'm taking everything that's mine, you know that when I leave my home will be with dad."
My mother's lip quivered, "you were the one that called me to come and get you, I tried to be a good mom, and you," I didn't even bother to listen as I spat out my next words.
"You cheated on dad, you, you didn't even care that I was shattered, you left me out on the street with Brady, because you wanted the house to you and him, and your wondering why I turned out the way I did, look in the mirror."
My statement was followed by bitter silence, my mom stunned by the things that had poured out of my mouth, pure venom.
All that could be heard was both of our steady breathing, as one dared the other to speak, however neither of us lived in revory for much longer my ring tone cutting through the silence.
Letting out a painful sigh, I yanked up my phone, and shoved past my mother, who stood there stricken by her own foolish actions.
I didn't even take a glance at the caller ID before I pushed the green button, my heart nearly beating out of my chest at the voice that sounded from the other side.
"Brianna, I'm so sorry you haven't heard from us, it's Jason, your Father has been missing for five days, we can't find him, I don't know what to do, he said he went out to find you, but we looked on his account, and he never got a plane ticket, or anything."
My brain was in overdrive, as I searched for a response. What was I supposed to say?
"What do you want me to do?" I heard myself speak, my voice sounding so foreign, who was I?
"Dad, leave her alone, we can handle this on our own." His voice, It was enough to form a knot in my stomach.
He hadn't even been speaking to me, yet the emotions hit full force, everything crumbling down on me at once.
My heart thundered, my ears straining to hear his soft velvet voice again.
"I'm not sure, he's been lost without you, not even a call, nothing, what happened?"
I was frozen in place at the words that came out of Jason's mouth.
I wasn't sure how long I was going to be there, but It was time for me to go back to the country.
