I had never slept so well, and it was quite a shock considering the circumstances. I rolled over, snatching up my phone, the drafty air wafting through my bedroom. Everything was silent around me as I lay there the bright sun peeking through my thin window shades.

How did I sleep until 11:30 in the morning, I must have been tired. My feet slid to the floor, and I did my series of morning stretches.

I was about to call Jason when the bedroom door swings open, revealing a very disheveled Jason, he almost was unrecognizable, his hair a pile on the top of his head. His eyes were bloodshot, his face reminiscent of a ghost.

"Bri, your father, someone found him, he is now at the police station." I blinked, yanking up my black Iran jacket, my mind now moving 100 miles a minute, they had found him, why had he gone out?

"Is, is he okay?" I urged, brushing past him, I made it halfway down the stairs, when Austin rushed through the door, his girlfriend hot on his heels.

"I'm coming too, you know I want to help, I want to be a part of this," her words fell limp on her tongue when she caught a sight of me, standing frozen on the staircase. Austin jerked his head around, his eyes conecting with mine, this time however they were blank, and the moment was quickly broken when he darted out the back door, his girl trailing after him like a puppy.

"Let's go," I mumbled to Jason, who followed me out the front and into the truck. We rode in silence, none of us knowing what to say until we pulled up to the old brick building, two men stood outside, scribbling stuff down.

Jason hopped out of the car, somehow I couldn't bring myself to, I didn't know if I was ready to face him, I couldn't, it was all so sudden. I leaned my head against the back of the seat, squeezing my eyes shut.

"It will be okay, I promise," Jason whispered through the crack of the window, he almost was like a father to me, his reassuring words always giving me the power I needed, but at this moment nothing seamed to help, as my stomach squeezed like a fist, digging nail by nail deeper and deeper, I couldn't breath, I couldn't think, I just needed to go home, I was stupid for coming here, I was...

"Brianna, we are all here for you," I glanced up at the sound of his voice, the breath catching in my throat, my birth father stood there next to Jason, his dark eyes so distant, it seamed so strange as though I would forget, he couldn't be my father, he hadn't even made an effort to know me, instead running away from his role and leaving it to someone else.

"I thought I told you to get out of my life," I hissed, leaping into the other seat, and jerking the door open, I felt my feet move under me before I could think, however I didn't go far before someone grabbed my arm, and I was whirled around into a hard chest.

"Do you really want to leave him sitting alone in there because of him, Brianna, he cane here to square things away, he wants to move forward, you need to allow him to." I snapped my head up my mouth gaping open at Austins sudden words.

I so much wanted to feel the feeling of his arms around me as they had been the night before, so safe and, right. Nobody had changed me in the way he had over the past year. I knew he was right, I owed it to my father to go in and see him, he was the only one who had really never abandoned me when I needed him the most.

I said nothing as I turned on my heal, starting off in the direction of the police station, my stomach falling back into place, my new found determination the only reassurance I needed at that moment. I was Brianna Wilkins, and fear was a weakness, a feeling that I wanted far far away from my heart.
