XV Some Common Ground
"Aelin, I'm sorry," Ben was standing in my rooms turned workshop.
"I don't want to hear it, Ben. Go away,"
"Aelin, I am sorry okay?"
"You're putting a plaster over shattered glass, go away," He sighed but continued to stand there. I grabbed the nearest wrench and threw it at him. It hit him in the gut, hard.
"Ahhhh!" He was bent double.
"You deserved that,"
He left. I continued to work on the little black box. Armitage walked in.
"Ben sent you, didn't he?"
He sighed, "Yes,"
"Whatever he told you to say, don't bother, I don't want to hear it,"
"Fair enough," He remained standing there. I ignored him.
"He wants you to train the scavenger,"
"I can't use the Force, he knows that,"
"With a lightsaber, he means,"
"Why can't he do it himself?"
"He thinks that if you train her you won't hate her as much,"
"I'm not training her,"
"Why not?"
"She's unbearable,"
"I thought so to,"
"So, what's he going to do, she'll never join this side, she's too righteous,"
"I think stubborn is a better word,"
"Whatever," a silence.
"What are you working on?"
"A droid,"
"That's a box,"
"You press a button and then it expands to be a droid,"
"That's pretty cool," another silence. "So, you and Ren are twins?"
"Yep, although he constantly pretends to be older,"
"I noticed,"
"And what do you think of Rey?"
"I think she's too stubborn for her own good,"
"So, you don't like her either,"
"No," more silence. "Are you going to come to he control room?"
"I suppose I'm going to have to. What did my brother send you to tell me?"
"That he's dreadfully sorry and he wants to know how to make it up to you. Why did he send me instead of doing it himself?"
"He tried. I threw a wrench at him,"
"Good for you,"
"Come on then,"
I walked into the room. Rey glared at me. Ben started whispering with Hux.
"You're wearing the jacket I got you," I looked at Rey.
"I was cold,"
"Good. That's what it's for,"
"You blew up the rebel base,"
"Yeah,"
"Ben says he wants you to train me with a lightsaber,"
"So I've heard," I was surprised by her use of my brother's first name, but didn't show it.
