Once school was over I bolted out of the building and towards the area where my car would be waiting. I'm sure Laken was already in waiting for me. I pulled the door open and got in the car once I reached my spot.
"Hey Laken." I said and grinned.
"Hey so how was it?" He asked and I raised an eyebrow.
"Fine."
"What did you think about the new kid? Wren?" I groaned.
"Oh my god nothing is happening between us, god why do you people keep assuming that." All day people had been asking me about him because they saw him talking to me in first period, and it didn't help that he blew off Nadine, who I didn't have anymore encounters with today luckily.
Laken just chuckled. "I didn't mean it that way, are you guys friends?" He asked and I shook my head.
"No god, he's...I don't know weird he kept talking to me today and he wouldn't leave me alone." I folded my arms across my chest and stared out the window. Laken nodded, pressing his lips together. "How long are you going to be gone?" My voice got low.
"A week, tops." He said looking out the window. Dad had business to attend to in California and he was taking Laken with him. "We will be fine." He said and I nodded.
"You know I worry that's all." I shrugged.
"Besides your going to be taken care of, its not like we are leaving you alone." He said, his voice having a bit more of a lighter tone. Whenever Laken left things seemed to get worse with school, more incidents happened than usual.
"Yeah but its the second day of school and youll be missing it already."
"The school understands as long as I keep my grades up, ill be fine Bev." He said and I nodded again as the car came to a stop. I sat there for a second longer, not wanting to look at him. "Come on, dad wants to talk to you anyways." He said grabbing my hand to drag me out of the car.
"What does dad want?" I asked looking at the entrance to HQ. I had training in a couple hours and I wanted to tackle some homework before it. I didn't want to spend time in HQ today I wanted to curl up in a ball on my bed and eat ice cream while reading, then vomit it all up after training.
"Doesn't matter, he wants to show you something." He said and I groaned against but grabbed my backpack and said goodbye to Charles who pulled away. We jumped in the elevator going down until it let us out. We strolled through the doors until we hit the main entrance and Laken got us in.
"Hey Dave." I grumbled and he glanced up at me and nodded, going back to his work. "Okay where's dad?" I asked. Laken pointed towards his office. I headed towards it but Laken stopped. "What you aren't coming?" I asked and he shook his head. "Great, that means I'm in trouble." I groaned and turned again heading towards his office.
I knocked twice before he told me to come in. I walked in and took in the scene in front of me. Dad was sitting behind his desk with a computer in front of him and someone was sitting in one of the chairs facing him like they were in idle chatter.
"Oh, good Beverly you are here." He said and I Nodded.
"Hey Daddy, what's going on?" I asked and he stood up walking towards me a little bit before sitting on the edge of his desk.
"I wanted to talk to you about something, Laken tells me you have been having issues in school, some girl picking on you?" He asked and I sighed.
"Its not a problem, she's just annoying, but no dad I'm not getting bullied. And it wouldn't be a problem if you weren't so afraid of people knowing who I was." I argued.
"I cant afford people to come after you, it would be to dangerous and you know that." He said and I nodded looking at my feet and crossing my arms.
"Is that it? You wanted to know if I was being picked on in school? Its nothing I cant handle." I said and he chuckled.
"I know I have seen you train. However Laken seems a little more concerned. So, I took a step." He said and my eyes shot to the person sitting in the chair. No. He didn't. "Beverly, this is Wren." Wren stood up and smiled at me. His entire body seemed different here though, in school he was relaxed. He seemed different, tougher almost. He was an agent though, that's who Laken was interviewing yesterday it all makes sense now.
"You did not hire me a bodyguard, dad!" I complained. He put his hands up almost as if I was going to hit him.
"Not a body guard Bev. Think of it as a friend." He said and I groaned again.
"A friend that you are paying." He shrugged.
"I need someone to look after you while we are away on missions and Laken cant always be there." Oh yeah because he is so helpful when I am getting picked on in school. "He is in all of your classes and he's just going to be around in case you need him okay?" He said and I sighed again. This cant be happening to me. He gave me a babysitter.
"Looks like your stuck with me." Wren said and smirked.
"I hate you." I muttered before turning and leaving the office. Naturally Wren followed me, catching up probably on my Fathers orders.
"Beverly, wait. Don't think of this as me babysitting you. Okay I'm not your bodyguard or babysitter in fact I'm more likely going to be with Laken more often than not." He said and I raised an eyebrow.
"How do you know my brother?"
"We trained together at camp over the summer for about three years." Wow so that's how he got the job. "Its not a big deal, on weekends I go on missions but when Laken is gone from school your going to be stuck with me and I'm sorry if you don't like that but its my job, so get over it." He said and shrugged as if it was nothing. My father was interfering with my life and he was just going to go with it.
"Whatever, I have to go to training."
"No you don't, its 3:45 training doesn't start til 6." Great so he memorized my schedule.
"Okay fine. Are you going to be with me every evening to or do I get to keep those?" I was being snarky but I didn't care, I was mad and until I got over it I was going to be a bitch to Wren, I didn't want him around.
