The cabin was something my father had set up years ago. It wasn't a family cabin or anything, rather than a safe house for me. It was put in my name and always stocked with basic survival needs. Guns, weapons, and everything else necessary for us to put up a fight if necessary while there.
It was located about two hours outside of our town, far enough away to not be noticed but safe enough that we weren't super far if anything happened. Wren and I didn't get there until about eleven pm. We pulled in the driveway and I cut the engine. i won the driving argument since he didnt know where it was located.
"its bed time." Wren said as he got out and followed me up towards the house. I unlocked the door and walked inside. We would need to go shopping tomorrow morning since there was no food here. But everything else we could possibly need was here.
Everything was washed once a month and we had a cleaning crew that came in once a month and freshened up the place so we didn't have to upon arrival.
"Im not tired." I said as I closed the door behind us. the cabin wasn't very big but it was big enough to hide my entire family. It opened into the living room with the kitchen off to the side with an open area between where our table was. There was a fireplace in the corner with wood stocked, and blankets on the couch.
"There are three bedrooms, you can take Laken's tonight. I will take mine." I said and looked down at my now dirty and tattered cheer uniform. "We are going to need clothes."
He nodded, still taking in the cabin. "I have some extra clothes in my trunk for emergencies. I will grab us some stuff to wear tonight and we will get more tomorrow. Maybe we can get Laken to bring us clothes and other things we might need." He said and I shook my head.
"We cant go back into town, we stay here until dad calls, only leaving for groceries. There's a small town a few miles away, its not much but we can get some clothes and food there." Wren nodded, walking over to me. I didnt know how to act, to cry or not, what to say or do. i was tense and worried and I dont think it was going to change until I got more information.
"Beverly." Wren said snapping me out of my thoughts. I turned around to him, wrapping my arms around my body. I could feel myself shaking, cold and scared. What we if lost everything, what is something happened to Laken or my family.
"I need to know Wren." I said and he nodded. He walked closer to me and wrapped his arms around me, instantly warming me up some.
"I will tell you everything I know once I find out. But for right now, my job is to keep you safe. If that means hiding here for a few days then so be it. You need some sleep, lets get ready for bed and we can turn on a movie and start a fire and wait to see if they call." He said and I nodded. It made sense and I knew that was the sane thing to do but I was still restless.
We changed out of our clothes, and I pulled on a long t-shirt that Wren had given me. I just wandered around in that and my underwear since I didn't have any shorts and all his just fell off me. Wren got a fire started and I picked out a movie for us to watch as we settled into the couches. I grabbed a blanket pulling it over my feet as Wren microwaved some popcorn.
"So how did you get the game cancelled?" I asked, curious. I hadnt gotten around to asking yet and it was something I definitely wanted to know.
"I started a small fire in one of the port-a-potty's. It may have split over and caught a table on fire which then caught the posters on the fence on fire but no one was hurt." he said and i laughed. A fire would stop a school game, to much chaos. Even if it was small. Fires spread though, that's why they are tricky.
