Chapter Fifteen - Déjà Vu
Urgh. I think my hangover skipped a day. I woke up this morning with a throbbing headache, aching joints and a bad stomach. But it's Friday, so I'm going into school.
I didn't really want to wait for Hannah and Drew so they could drive me, so I started to walk. I wrapped up warm so the air wouldn't make me cold and make me look even worse than I already do.
I ended up getting there early and hardly anyone was around apart from Graham Masters and the scrabble club. I walked to go to tutor to do some studying and felt my phone go off as I walked. I looked down into my bag to retrieve it as I turned a corner and bumped into someone.
I fell backwards and banged my head on the hard floor. I closed my eyes and began to feel dizzy again. I saw a hand reach out in front of me a graciously took it to stand and get up.
I still kept my eyes shut and rubbed them until I could regain full conciseness again.
"Oh sorry I didn't know where I was.."I looked up to see who my helper was. Max. "Oh, hi,"
I dunno about anyone else but this to me feels like a major case déjà vu. And I don't think I want it to be, not at this moment in time anyway.
"Hey," was all he responded with. He's been wanting to talk to me about what happened and all he came out with was 'hey'. Smooth.
"Considering this is awkward, I'm just gonna go," I went to walk past him but he grabbed my arm.
"Wait, we need to talk," he replied sternly.
"There's nothing to talk about," I said through my teeth. I turned to walk away but he still had grip on my wrist.
And before I knew it I was being dragged into the janitors closet and Max locked the door.
"So this your new hobby? Dragging innocent people into confined spaces?" I accused him crossing my arms over my chest.
"Innocent? It takes two to tango in this situation," he retorted back.
"I don't wanna talk about this right now, it's too early in the morning to be dealing with this," I grabbed my head as a wave of nausea hit me and I keeled over.
A shooting pain ran up my spine and through to my stomach. I tipped a empty bucket upside down to sit on it and focus.
"Danielle? You okay? You look a little pale.." he commented on my appearance.
"Cheers buddy!" I exclaimed at him but keeping back the feeling to throw up in front of him.
"Well I'd call us a little more than buddies..." I heard him mutter user his breath. I glared up at him and then leant forward trying to calm down and breathe.
I shut my eyes trying to clear my head for a little bit until the pounding had stopped. I kinda wished that when I stood up that Max wasn't still there.
"Can you go please, I need to be on my own right now.." I threw back at him harshly, knowing that he was still stood there in all his glory.
"Not til we talk and not til I know that your okay," he replied smoothly, but I could hear the smile in his voice as well. I peeled open both eyes and he was leant with his back against the door and intently staring at me the whole time. I stood up trying not to wobble over as I leant against the clear White wall next to the door.
"You just don't give up do you?" I asked him folding my arms and sighing.
"Nope," he replied popping the 'p'.
"You realise that I'm as stubborn as a bull, right?" I challenged, I think.
"As am I fair lady," he quoted back. Fair lady? Why use those words exactly?!
