Chapter 16

**Hello again! Another update! –Jade**

“And now, if everyone would forward into the ballroom far dancing!”

Elijah came down from the stairs and offered his arm to me. I took it nervously.

“Elijah, I don’t know how to dance.”

He smiled at me, amused.

“Just follow my lead.”

‘Give me love’ by Ed Sheeran started playing, causing Elijah to partially force me onto the dance floor. He placed one of his hands in mine and the other on my waist. We danced around the floor, and I started to enjoy myself. Before we had to switch partners.

“Hello Darling.”

I looked up to see Klaus. Oh God.

“Klausey.”

He grimaced.

“You do realize I could rip of your head right now.”

“But you won’t. I don’t think you would like having Kol and Elijah on your back.”

He grinned at me.

“Yes, you do seem to have both my brothers besotted.”

“Nah. I’m just friends with ‘Lijah.”

“Are you sure he thinks that?”

Before I had a chance to reply, he spun me on to my next partner.
“Damon!”

“Bethaannny. Fancy seeing you here.”

“Well, I though this was a sophisticated gathering, but you just ruined that impression.” I smirked.

“Ugh. I forgot how annoying you were.”

“Don’t worry, I’m still shipping Delena.”

He glared at me, before handing me over. I really needed to stop this soon. Who even invented this dance!? Can’t we just stick with the one partner.

“Hey Beth.”

“Steffie! Finally a partner that I actually like.”

He chuckled.

“Yes, you seem to have left a trail of grumpy vampires in your wake.”

I looked around to see both Klaus and Damon glaring at me. If looks could kill…

“Why are you even here? You don’t like the originals.”

“Elena is meeting with Esther Mikaelson. Damon and I are here to protect her.”

“Oh course you are.” I rolled my eyes. Protective git. “Wait, Who?”

“Esther Mikealson. The original witch. The original vampire’s mother.”

“What?”

He sighed.

“Ask Elijah.”

He walked off, literally leaving me alone in the middle of the dance floor. I walked of it as fast as I could, Which wasn’t very fast, because I had to find my way through twirling and twisting couples, including Damon. Whose foot I ‘accidently’ stepped on. Causing him to grimace and get some very strange looks from his partner. I headed over to Rebekah, who looked very bored.

“Hey Bekah!”

“Beth! Hey. Finally someone I can have a decent conversation with. Are you enjoying yourself?”

“Yes. Though dancing was…. Interesting.”

“Yes. I could see my Brother and that Salvatore weren’t very happy after they had danced with you.”

I shrugged.

“Don’t you like dancing?”

“Not re-“

“Ladies.” Elijah cut Rebekah off.

Rebekah glared at him.

“I apologise for interrupting, but Bethany, may I speak to you alone?”

“Um, sure.”

He walked off and I followed, looking back at Rebekah with an apologetic look, but she was already talking quite avidly to another guest who I didn’t recognize.

Elijah led me outside under the balcony. No one was out there, it was obviously too cold.

“So ‘Lijah. What do you want to talk about?”
