Nevada’s P.O.V
“Stop it, Mark! Jesus. You’re hurting me”
Walking away from Lauretta’s party, I and my boyfriend of 4 years, Mark, were in another petty argument. We just left from my best friend’s birthday party and everything seemed to be going so well. Then, I got a text from my boss and Mark swore it was an “other guy”. I tried explaining to him that this was all just a misunderstanding, but apparently he was not having it.
“Do you fucking believe that I am an idiot!” he hollered at me tightening his grip on my arm, I felt the hot trickles of spit hover from his mouth onto my nose.
“Mark please, you know I love you…” wincing in agony I couldn’t let the rest of my words commence, I was just able to settle with,
“Mark…people are staring…”
“I don’t give a fuck!!!!” He raised his empty arm and backhanded me into the damp rain covered concrete. Rolling over to my side, I felt a thick liquid force it’s’ way into my mouth and it tasted metallic.
“Ah, pathetic humans, always trying to find a way to be superior towards the weak, makes me so sick.”
I glanced up at the pale figure leaning on the building behind Mark. His skin was pale of snow and his lips were luminous red. What stood out more to me? His hair. It was a jet black color and it fell all over his face. He had far-reaching cuts on the sides of his mouth. In one hand he twirled a knife.
“Who the fuck are you, creep!” Mark muttered as he tried to lunge at the person. The thing ducked its head just in time stabbing Mark in his eyeball. Mark fell to the ground fussing as blood gushed out of his left eye socket.
“Oh my god…” I whispered getting up and hurdling towards the nearest place I could find. I stumbled into Blackwood’s Park and sat in the bench near the lake. My arm ached, I lifted the sleeve of my sweater to see a blackish purple bruise on my deep vanilla colored skin.
“He really was an asshole, don’t you think?” I pivoted my head around to see the figure laying near the tree behind my bench. My body filled with goose bumps and I instantly froze.
“What...Who are..You?” I managed to evince out of my mouth.
“Jeff. Funny, I was kind of hoping that you would already know so that we could skip this whole “meet and greet situation”. He grinned while licking his bloody knife.
Wait. That blood he’s licking. That is Mark’s blood. Mark!
“You murdered my boyfriend!” I stood up letting crystal balls dance down my cheeks.
“Yeah… hey, you know, there are worst things that could have happened to him”
I pushed him out of the way and started stomping to the bus stop, I can’t wrap my mind around all of this. Mark is dead. And the murderer couldn’t have cared less.
“Leaving so soon?” he grabbed the shoulder of my sweater spinning me around to fully face him. His face two inches away from mine, I examined his features more. His eyes were huge. I smelled the scent of something rotten from his sweater. My nose squelched tightly.
“You know,” he jolted swiftly pushing me up against tree bark placing the knife horizontally across my neck.
“I should kill you too. Just for the fun of it.” He mumbled pressing the knife up against my neck with more force. I stayed in place not making a single gesture.
“Go ahead, do it you sick bastard!”
He beamed an acid smile at me slowly moving the knife away.
“Not yet…My crave isn’t ready for you yet, No I’ll have you later.” He dropped me to the ground backing away from me.
“See you around… Nevada.”
And just like that he submerged into the dark side off the wooded park. I limped to the nearest bus stop and waited patiently to board so I could get home. From where I stood, I glance across the street to see if Mark’s body was still there, but it wasn’t.
“Ewwk… What did Jeff do to it?” I mumbled to myself as the bus pulled up in front of me. I sat in the last seat hidden in the back. Leaning into the window close to falling asleep something plunked my mind that sent chills all through my spine.
He knew my name…
