Midnight...

Nevada's P.O.V

I tried to muffle my tears if that counts.

I got up from the bed expecting it to be morning when I peered out the tent's crease, but it was still pitched black outside.

Jeff remained in the same position in front of the fire...

A part of me wanted to run up and shake the living nothing out of him, but instead I just stared at him. Creating infinite amount's of "what if's" in my mind.

Jeff's P.O.V

Stop staring at me...

I didn't need to spin around in a frenzy to realize that Nevada was glaring a hole into my back. But I couldn't talk to her right now, not after the way I exploded earlier...

"Maybe saving you was just a dumb mistake..."

"You're no better than any other ungrateful human out there!..."

"Ugh." My stomach is churning.

I needed to apologize to her. To say that all those things were just out of anger...I can't even imagine the thought of living without Nevada, whether she loathed me or not.

How am I to do it though? All I could think about is her tears...she's in that tent crying because of me...and I can't help her...protect her.

Fuck it, it's now or never.

I stood up.

Nevada's P.O.V

I wandered around the tent trying to think up ways to apologize to Jeff.

"Hey Jeff...Sorry about...No, that's too plain." I sat at the edge of the bed with my head cupped within my hands.

That's enough.
I suddenly stood from the bed... needing to do this now or never. I shuffled up to the opening of the tent, pulling back the tarp to face...

Jeff.

Jeff P.O.V

Just before I could pull open the tarp, Nevada opened it staring right into my eyes...

She looked like crap.

Her eyes resembled marshmallows; they were blood shot as well. She had tiny struggle scratches scattered on her face which she probably did herself...its ironic how no matter how damaged she was, she still managed to be gorgeous.

Nevada's P.O.V

I forced a crooked smile onto my lips.

"Hey..." I muttered with left over phlegm from crying lingering at the back of my throat.

"Nevada..." Jeff warmly mumbled while placing his hand on my arm. I held his other hand tightening my grip with every following second.

"...I have something to tell"

"Wait. Nevada you don't have to. It was my fault; I was frustrated from everything that was going on that ..." He paused moving towards the bed then somberly sitting on it.

"No. Jeff you don't need to keep taking the blame for my stupid actions. I brought up something that should have died centuries ago. I'm grateful for that night Jeff and I'm so grateful to have someone like you in my life...I'm sorry." I crumpled beside him.

"Nevada...I know that you're grateful. I know that you didn't mean what you said. I'm not taking the blame...it is my fault. I left you Nevada...I left thinking that it would be better for you if I was just gone, but I was wrong. All I did was create distance between you and I. I'm not perfect, but I have a duty to live up to for you. Constantly putting you in danger, afflicting you with my past troubles...I'm sorry." Jeff reached into his back pocket yanking out his knife then, dropping it onto the floor.

"Nevada what you said at Eli's funeral is true. I couldn't even protect a student at Acrasia, what makes slender think I can be your guardian or better yet run a whole community. What happens if Jane gets to you before I could..." Jeff turned his head to me.

"How can I live without you here?" He inched his head back towards his knife. I slowly placed my hand on his thigh.

"Jeff...Look at me." I watched as he glared at me once again. I smiled, this time without exerting any force.

"I'm not going anywhere and I was wrong about Eli. It wasn't anyone's fault but Melody's for his death. Slender wouldn't have put you in charge if he didn't have faith that you were the most capable of the job. Stop doubting yourself, you're perfect to me..." I couldn't hold it back any longer, I leaned into Jeff's chest wrapping my arms around his iced neck. I felt him arranging his arms around my waist pulling me into the bed.

"Jeff!" I shrieked laughing as caressed my neck with slimy kisses. This is what I missed. Us. The old us...

In the Morning...

Nevada's P.O.V

The tent smelt of over-melted wax and dew. I rolled around to see Jeff shirtless sound asleep next to me. His pale chest skipped up and down peacefully.

"You needed this..." I whispered while I stood up. Almost taking a full step forward I realized that Jeff's knife was still straddling on the floor. I picked it up placing it near his hood on the miniature wood box stand. I silently walked out the tarp door motioning towards the pile of wood centering the campsite.

I should probably scavenge this for good pieces...

I knelt besides the wood pile picking through the coal until my hand felt something...weird.

"Did you find my gift yet Neva?" startled I glanced up, immediately wishing I hadn't. My heart went on vacation...

"How the hell..." I couldn't wrap my head around who it was I was speaking to.

"What Neva? You got to dig deeper..." without thinking I dived into the pile surfacing out...Greyson's head!

"Ahh! What the fucking...JEFFFFFFF!" I dropped the dismembered head dashing towards the tent. I reached Jeff who was already standing up with his knife in hand.

"What happened?" Jeff asked speeding out the front while I followed. Then he instantly paused.

"Oh shit...Mark?"Jeff held out his left arm to hold me back while waving his knife in the other.

"I see you've been taking care of my property, that's sweet. By the way Jane told me to give you that..." I glared as Mark pointed to Greyson's head. I could heave...

"How the fuck did you come back to life? I murdered you...unless..." Jeff laid his hand down to his side.

"All this chit chat is nice and all but I came here for one thing..." Mark lifted his hand shooting out a bolt of light towards my face, but Jeff instantly blocked it. Jeff then picked me up hurling through the bushes and trees.

"That can't be possible." Jeff thought out loud.

"Jeff, how..." my stomach ached as I spoke, grasping Jeff intensely.

"Nevada...you need to be hidden now." Jeff continued speeding forward.

"Hidden? What's going on, why is he back?!" I yelped at Jeff.

"All I know is that if she could do that..." Jeff hesitated for second.

"Then she's getting stronger."
