Nevada’s P.O.V

I touched the portraits above the fireplace listening to Jeff as he mumbled to himself in what seemed to be the kitchen, but honestly I couldn’t tell what room it really was because everything was so darn tiny. Just the room I was standing in resembled a living room fit for a single person, or better yet a puppy. One of the portraits was of my father and me at Blackwood’s Top Diner. It was my 6th birthday and he kept whispering over the candlelit table that my mother was only running late and would join us soon. It’s funny, if I had known that later that day Officer Riley  would have been the one to show up instead of her, maybe I wouldn’t have whined all day awaiting her arrival, maybe I would have just seeped myself in conversation with my father, being careful to avoid wasting  any of his time left with me. Maybe…

“Hey…are you alright?” Jeff startled me out of my thoughts.

“Oh yeah…how did you get this picture?” I pointed to the portrait of my father.

“I kinda raided your house for anything that you may have wanted, I thought that you might have wanted that one…if it’s bothering you, I could remove it.” Jeff gestured toward the fireplace but I quickly dived in front of him.

“No! Please, I do want it.” I watched as he backed away smirking. He sat himself at the edge of the loveseat near the kitchen.

“So? Aren’t you going to explain to me what happened and where the hell we are?” I paced the minuscule room with my arms crossed above my chest.

“Well I can’t exactly tell you where we are, but I could tell you that there are people trying to kill you, which means you need to start training. Like today.” Jeff leaned back onto the wooded wall as if everything was A okay.

“Training? Jeff, if you have yet to notice I could take care of myself. Just tell me who it is and…”

“AND WHAT? Nevada I love you but you’re definitely not ready to fight or even kill anyone. You need to not only be physically prepared but mentally as well. With all that has happened, you need someone to help you concentrate. The people who are after us aren’t just everyday humans; they’re like Slenderman and me. They have powers and will certainly use them to make sure you’re dead.”

“…Okay Jeff. I understand what you’re saying but I am mentally prepared. More than you’ll ever know.” I stopped pacing around halting in his direction. He got up wrapping his hands in mine.

“You’re strong Neva. I know that. But I saw your face when you became face to face with Mark…Are you capable of killing him? Because if you are fooled again by what you see, you might not get a second chance. He will kill you.” Jeff collapsed him head onto my shoulder pulling me in closer.
