the trees swayed quietly behind our backs
the summer breeze lifted our spirits
the salt splashed our faces softly
the warmth of our intertwined hands soothed my soul
the laughter you caused made my belly ache
the soft sand underneath us pushed my toes to curl
the sun bathed us in its cleansing light
the ocean lapped our sins away
the love we shared coursed through our hearts
the birds squawked idly with their cries
the fire in our hearts gave us a heavenly glow
the world slowed down when we were together
before we turned on each other's backs
before we drowned our sorrows in bitter spirits
before we hated the looks on each other's faces
before you withered away and sold your soul
before you managed to make me ache
before you forced my knuckles to curl
before we had forgotten to be each other's light
before we had the yearning to sink away
before we had poured gasoline on our paper hearts
before i succumbed to my cries
before i noticed i lost my own glow
before i saw the world we created crumble the last time we were together
