"I brought you something," I didn't have to look up to know who it was, I could see his shiny black loafers and crisp, white lab coat that reeked of bleach. His voice was loud and unnaturally upbeat probably due to the large smile he refused to wipe from his face. To be frank, I hated him.
"Oh come on, at least look at it Rinley..." "Rin. My name is Rin," He paused a moment, probably not used to being corrected. "ah," he sighed, "Rin, of course," His lab coat crinkled as he knelt down beside me, placing a sandwich in my lap. "Not hungry," I wasn't lying, it felt like a raging typhoon was trapped within my stomach and feeding it would only lead to more destruction.
"Look, I know you're stressed but in situations like these it's best if you remain strong, after all, you're no good to your mother if you're on the brink of starvation now are you?" bastard. My fingers moved on their own accord, picking up the plastic container and opening it slightly. "There you go," a victory smirk grew across his shaven face as he waited for me to take a bite. The next thing I did I had complete control over, I opened the container all the way, picked up the sandwich and then chucked it in the bin to my right. "I. Said. I'm. not. hungry," I gritted out, his smirk immediately died along with any remaining pleasantry.
"I was just trying to help," I scoffed, avoiding eye contact with him. "I'm not the one you should be helping," He hummed, returning to his full height. "There's not much we can do she should be dead within three years, unless you have the cure for cancer?" My world stopped. Cancer? Why didn't she say anything? At that moment I felt like a small flame on a windy day, each gust grew stronger and stronger bringing me closer and closer to being nothing, I felt like I was suffocating, desperately clawing at the candle I sat atop to save me from my demise. I wanted to cry but I couldn't, for those tears might be the very things that put my light out for good.
"I would like to see her." My voice came out in gasps, a strange pressure was building in my rib cage, squeezing my heart and making it hard to breathe. "I'm afraid that's not possible," The smirk was back, it clear he's happy he finally evoked a reaction from me. "W-why is...why is that?" I think this is hyperventilation, I once saw a kid in my primary school do it, the kids around him began sobbing as he racked is lungs for air his chest moving up and down in a rough and ragged fashion, I only watched in curiosity. "Not so tough now, huh Rinley?" It's Rin, you dickhead! is what I wanted to say but my words got caught in a particularly strangled breath. "he-help!" It came out in a splutter but I was sure it was understandable. "What was that?" Are you mad? you're a god damn doctor and you're letting this happen?! "p-p-pl-please!" I hated myself for giving into him but I hated him more for being such a prick.
"Oh sure thing Rinley, you should have asked sooner," Fuck you.
I remember now, how could I ever forget that voice laced with sweetness and hidden motive. "Doctor Mylen..." My mother's doctor and my tormenter, it almost seems fitting that he'd be the one to create this monstrosity. "Ahh Rinley, do you like my creation?" No.
"You see I'm hoping to add your mother to it soon," That same tightness was beginning to build in my chest again. "She's beginning to look more and more like a corpse these days, she'll fit right in among my beauties!" Wait...are they all old patients of his? Now as I focussed more on the veined rotting corpses, I noticed spotted rags that covered all but a small split at the back. "hospital gowns," More vomit rose as I imagined the people they were before and the families that had probably been lied to. "I would love to add you to the collection but the thing is...you're just not pretty enough, well that and the fact that if I want to win you must die.
He really is a prick.
