Chapter 11: Rich Blood- I stood next to Terran and Annett in the main room of the mansion surrounded by vampires. Drake stood where Chao usually stood,
"Chao, our leader, is dead."
The vampires whispered amongst themselves,
"Who could do such a thing?"
"Everyone loved Chao."
"Who will be leader now?"
Drake waited for the muttering to die down before he spoke again,
"We must chose a leader."
A girl a few years older than me with dark hair spoke out,
"There will be no choosing. Who kills the leader becomes the leader."
Then I realized it was Melen. She stood with confidence and arrogance. I stepped forward,
"I killed him. Therefore, I am your new leader."
Melen's pride dissolved into thin air and she became mournful. She looked like someone had punched her in the stomach,
"You...you killed Chao?"
I nodded awkwardly unsure what she was thinking. Melen pulled a dagger from her belt slowly. She whispered,
"I loved him."
She thrust the dagger at me her eyes full of fury. Annett jumped in front of me and the dagger buried in her chest. I screamed and fell to my knees. I wrapped my arms around Annett and pulled her into my lap. I stoked her hair and whispered,
"Annett."
Annett entwined her cold hand with my hand. I shivered slightly. She cupped my cheek in her hand gently whispering,
"Collin, Collin I love you."
I pressed my lips to hers for the last time,
"I know. I love you too."
Melen rushed forward,
"Get your filthy hands off my sister."
I let Melen hold her but my hand was still wrapped around Annett's hand. Annett said in a harsh hoarse voice,
"You killed me."
Melen shook her head as tears ran down her cheeks,
"I aimed at Collin."
She gripped my hand tighter,
"If Collin had died instead of me I might not have been dead but I would feel dead. My heart beat would slow each day without Collin and I would feel hollow and empty."
Annett's eyelids fluttered shut. Melen hugged Annett tightly hoping to squeeze the life back into her. Then she turned to me. I scrambled to my feet as Melen yanked the dagger out of Annett's bloody chest. I watched her cautiously waiting for her next move. She stared at the bloody dagger in her hand then looked at me. Melen walked toward me slowly. I begged my legs to move but they simply wouldn't. So this is how I die. A dagger slicing through my skin by the hand of my girlfriends sister. Melen was inches away. She smiled nastily and pushed my back against the cold brick wall of the mansion with the dagger to my neck. Annett's blood dripped down my chest making me shiver. Melen said to Drake,
"Do you want to be leader?"
Without hesitation he replied,
"Of course."
She grinned,
"Come here."
Drake walked toward us. Melen grabbed his arm and yanked him toward me,
"Bite him."
Drake and I both said at the same time,
"What?"
Melen huffed frustrated,
"Since you obviously don't want to kill her the other way to become leader is for her to bite you."
Drake nodded. Melen grabbed hold of my mouth prying it open. She ordered me,
"Stick out your fangs and bite him."
I laughed,
"I'm leader. I don't take orders from a puny vampire like you."
Melen gasped,
"Oh you little..."
Her fist collided with my head making everything go black instantly.Sorry. This chapter was super short and I'm taking forever to write the next one but I promise I'll publish soon.
