Loving What I Hated

First day of school, when I first met you,
You didn't know me, neither I to you.
We were minding our own business,
Until you bumped into me.

Our eyes then met, and sparks flew.
But I didn't know it, not having a clue.
We argued with each other, neither apologizing.
The bell rang loudly, then we started running.

Our second encounter was at detention,
We were both late due to each other's frustration.
Silence filled the room, not one of us speaking.
We apologized at the same time, laughing then bonding.

The third time I saw you, I actually didn't.
I tripped and I fell, expecting the pavement.
But you catched me, I was safe and sound.
As I was in your arms, my own heart fell to the ground.

No one would catch it, I knew that already.
While you were a king, and I was a nobody.
I didn't want to like you, but I already did.
I wanted to hate you, but my heart resisted.

The next days, you went to me.
We were best friends and laughter was the key,
The key to hide my feelings from thee.
And on went the days of laughter and glee.

After years of being friends with you, I wanted to ask you if you wanted to be my prom.
But you beat me to it, with news of your own.
You asked the girl you liked, and laughed while saying so.

I wanted to be happy, but I guess that can't be.
I didn't want you to worry, so I smiled for you to see.
My heart broke in two, my love aching for you.
But it wasn't meant to be, so I just left you.
