Conflict

It'd been a week since you were engaged and word was soon reaching the galaxy. No one was for it. . .save for some.

The idea that someone like Kylo Ren and a seemingly unheard of princess such as yourself to take over the throne wasn't appealing for anyone. Of course, there were no judgements really to be said of you but rather of your fiance.

You had to speak out on occasion and convince the public that this was for the greater good of the people and not just them, but for the galaxy. But it seemed the majority of the people just laughed and mocked you. They pitied you for wanting to marry such a disgrace.

No one said this was going to be easy. At all.

Even most of your fellow rebels took to disowning anything they had to do with you and any effort you put in with them. In their eyes you were a traitor.

You hadn't even spoken to Cora since that night on Canto Bight. You wanted no one else to be your bridesmaid but her but you could guess that she probably thought you were a traitor as well. They probably couldn't even fathom your choice to marry the broody grandson of Darth Vader.

Negotiations with general Leia Organa herself went very dicey as well.

Kylo tried to make plans to meet with her but he'd back down from them because he just didn't want to face her. You took it upon yourself to meet with her instead. You didn't know why he couldn't just put this one thing aside and face her.

Of course you had talked to Princess Leia on occasion but never face to face and you had to admit you were nervous. She was in fact, the biggest face of the Rebellion in the entire galaxy. You didn't know why the Rebellion hated you for marrying her son. Hell, they should be praising you for trying to get him to switch sides.

You were going to be her daughter in law so you needed to explain to her that Ben, not Kylo, was a good choice for the galaxy.

You had plans to meet with her outside of Naboo, alone and privately so that there would be no interruptions.

She landed her ship outside on a lush field, near the waterfalls. You were alone, dressed in fine silk and already looking like royalty. You weren't used to that lifestyle yet so it was a bit out of character for you, you had to admit.

Ben was out making preparations for the ceremony. Whether or not the galaxy wanted you two to rule it wasn't left up to them.

Princess Leia stepped off her ship and you immediately felt a force pull drawing you both near. She gave you a small smile and reached out to hug you.

"It's an honor to finally meet you," you smiled as you took in her delicate features. She still had that aspect of youth as her chocolate colored eyes flashed up at you.

Those same eyes were the color of Ben's. He favored her so much. He had the same cheek structure as her. There were definitely some similarities.

"Likewise," she offered you a bright smile. She had some of her advisors take caution but she shooed them away. She basically told them you were no threat just because you were to be married to a Darth Vader's grandson and her son.

"Y/N. . .are you sure that this is what you want? I can talk to the high council and get a good word for you but is this what you want?" She asked as if it were a word of caution.

You sighed, "I honestly think he's trying. He's trying to change. It's going to take a while for him to get used to things but I want to believe in him," you replied back.

She took your hands in hers and gave you a look of concern.

"I just. . .I don't want you to regret this decision. I trust you Y/N. I just don't know if I can ever trust my son. . .not after he killed. . ." She trailed off, looking up at the sky with sadness. "There's just---a lot of darkness still residing in my son."

"I understand. . ." You whispered, tightening your hands around hers. "Just give Ben a chance." You mentioned.

She nodded, not furthering the matter anymore.

"I'll make arrangements with the high council about your marriage. Oh, and Y/N. . .I've---made contact with Luke," she mentioned, voice cracking.

Your face turned slightly pale at the mention of your old Master's name.

"Master? How? I thought he was just a myth these days?" You said, dumbfoundedly.

"Coruscant." She stated. "He's been hiding there all of these years and we are going to try to bring him back." Leia sighed.

"I'd like for him to talk to Ben. . .whether he likes it or not. I think this would be for the best." She said.

After a couple more minutes of talking, General Leia announced that she was needed elsewhere and you made your way back to the palace.

Ben was still gone so you had some time alone to yourself to think about things.

It was like it all happened like hyperspeed. One minute you hated Kylo and the next you were marrying him.

And Luke. Luke was still alive. Leia had mentioned she would send word whenever Luke could make it and confront Ben himself.

This just sounded like a bad idea altogether. You weren't sure if Ben was ready for something like that. Well, Kylo definitely wouldn't be. You felt he still needed time.

Only time would tell if he would be the leader this galaxy needed. You sighed, pinching the bridge of your nose and furrowing your brows.

You felt like the weight of the galaxy were on your shoulders but this was what you signed up for when you said yes.

You wouldn't and didn't regret making that decision though. Something inside of you was still calling towards the light and you wanted nothing more than to bring Ben back to it.

You could see he was trying. . .but was it enough?

Only time would tell.
