Distance

A week passed since you even heard from  Ben but he would find time to reach out to you through the force.

You missed him.

He had to have known that Luke was back. You could sense the disturbance through Kylo whenever you felt the bond with him.

You were alone, focusing your mind on the bond between you and Ben. You felt him reaching out to you as well. He was telling you about meeting with the First Order and how he stepped down from his position as  Supreme Leader. He only did that because he thought he could become something greater. . .more powerful, even.

You knew this wasn't going to end well and it could very well mean that a new threat was on the horizon.

You just wanted him home.

You intertwined your fingers with his and he leaned his forehead against yours.

"There's. . .a lot weighing on my mind. I don't know if I can hold back any anger from seeing him," Ben said, voice low and tremulous.

"I'll be by your side, Ben. Have no doubts about that," you said in hopes of comforting him.

"I-I know. . .I just hope you have enough strength for the both of us," he noted while letting out a shaky breath.

"I always do," you replied, squeezing his hand as if to reassure him.

"I promise that when I return, I'll give you the wedding you've always dreamt about." He sighed into your hair.

You felt butterflies in your stomach at the thought.

"When will you be returning?" You asked, content being next to him.

"In three days. I'm still trying to work things out. But I promise to return," he said, running his thumb along your cheek.

You were suddenly brought back to reality as you heard the doors to your bedroom being pushed open and any feeling of the force bond with Ben was gone and you were alone again. Dammit.

You sighed in frustration.

"Yes? Is there anything wrong?" You asked, irritated that you had to suddenly drop Ben.

"Your highness. . .we've brought you a few dresses to try on for your wedding. Would you like for us to assist you?" Asked a rather short, blue alien species.

"No, that will be fine. I can manage," you said. They bowed and nodded, leaving you alone once again.

You were eager to see what the dresses looked like. They were all different in fabric, length, and texture. Some had lace and some were more fit for a queen. . .fitting.

You figured you had nothing else to do for the night but try on the many dresses they brought in.

After trying on a few, you finally settled on the perfect one.

"This is beautiful," you thought aloud.

You placed the dress in a trunk where Ben wouldn't see it and smiled to yourself.

You had dreamed of being married but never so soon. You always thought you would've settled down alone for a while, managing the Rebellion instead of boys.

It was like a twisted fairytale.

You couldn't possibly think to imagine that you'd ever have feelings for a former Supreme Leader either.

But to you, Ben was always Ben. Deep down you knew it. Even since the first time you both made a connection you knew he was meant for a greater purpose. He had done things you were sure you would never be able to forgive and yet here you both were. You seemed to be forgiving him for a lot lately.

The distance had only made you miss him more.

The next day dawned and you had an unexpected visitor.

Her icy blonde hair was now cut short and she too had a flashy ring around her finger.

"Cora!" You smiled widely and she smiled just as big back at you. You couldn't believe she would ever want to see you again.

You two caught up and she asked you if you'd had a bridesmaid and you of course shook your head. She kindly agreed to be yours and you gave her a bone crushing hug. "It's been forever, really! And here I thought you'd been secretly wishing I were dead!" You joked.

"It's so good to see you too," Cora laughed.  "And you're married too?" Damn, how long have I been out of the loop?" You gawked, looking down at her ring.

"It was a private wedding but yes, I'm officially wifey material." She grinned as she flashed her ring finger in the air.

"How're you holding up though? This is a huge change for you isn't it? I have to say Y/N. . .I don't trust Kylo. I mean, for all you know he could have something sinister up his sleeve that he's keeping from you! I mean, he was a ploy working under that arsehole Snoke! How can you trust him?" She asked, honestly worried for your sake.

"You have to be sure that you want this. . .he could lead you down a dark path. . ." She said, voice shaking.

You sighed and closed your eyes and opened them back up before giving Cora a look.

"I can't give up on him, Cora. I have to know that there is some good in him. He killed Snoke. He turned his back on them. I want to believe he is trying." You pleaded, trying not to doubt yourself. You didn't tell her about the part where he wanted to rule the galaxy.

Cora sighed. "Okay, okay. But please know that the resistance is still on your side. If something happens, come back with us. I don't want to see him drag you down with him just in case something does happen, Y/N." Cora said, leaving you as she gave you one last hug before she would see you again on your wedding day.

You couldn't help but think about her words. But you just couldn't bring yourself to want to doubt Ben. There had to be a reason for the force connecting you both.

For all you knew though, he could be clouding your thoughts.

And then, you felt it.

It was another disturbance in the force.

Someone was trying to connect with you.

That someone was Luke.
