You woke early that morning, sweating and breathing like you couldn't catch your breath.
You'd had another nightmare about that night again. . . the night that changed your life whether you liked it or not.
You weren't nine anymore. You were eighteen. Nine years had passed since that incident.
All of your dreams of becoming a Jedi had been kicked to the dust and went up in flames like the Jedi temple you once trained at. And yet, you couldn't get him out of your head. You never could.
You pulled yourself together, easing up from your cot and got dressed.
Since the Jedi order was basically lost and there had been no more signs of your old Master Luke, you'd eagerly decided to join the Rebellion.
You took up residence on the planet of Dathomir. It was well known for it's secret bases for the Rebellion and you'd made a pretty decent name for yourself there, despite it being a Sith based planet. Something drew you to this world.
Im your time on Dathomir, you'd even helped a squadron take out a whole fleet of tiefighters and you remembered the night you got to celebrate that victory at the local bar.
Dathomir was where you met your best friend, Cora Zentana. You had been through numerous missions with her and you both would end up making bets on who could take out the most bad guys.
You smiled, knowing that you at least had one friend you could rely on to get you through your days and take your mind off of past events that haunted you nearly every night.
And sure, Dathomir wasn't the prettiest of places but you had somewhere to settle down and try to make a living. Things kinda seemed normal. . .almost.
Save for the part about your neverending, sweat inducing nightmares.
Just as you started to make breakfast, you heard a knock or two on your front door. You sighed, not getting to finish making your delicious omelet and shuffled over to the door.
You put one eye up to the spyhole and immediately rolled your eyes. You really didn't want to deal with this guy today.
"Hey, uh...Y/N...you home?" He asked. You opened up the door and there stood Lionel. He'd pretty much been smitten with you ever since he learned you'd joined the ranks of the Rebellion with him.
You bit down on your lip in annoyance before finally opening the door. "Heeeey. . ." you said, rather awkwardly. "What brings the fantastic Rebellion co-pilot Lionel to my doorstep today?" You announced sarcastically.
He nervously scratched the back of his neck, giving you a toothy grin as he blushed at hearing you say his name. "Uh-um. . .well, me and a few other guys from the aviary were wondering if you'd like to go test flying today? Uh, ya know. . .to kinda show the new recruits how it's done?" He asked, hoping with a twinkle in his blue eyes that you'd say anything but no.
You sighed. You really wanted to relax today from a long week as it was but if it meant showing some new recruits how things were done then it didn't sound too bad.
You finally gave him a nod and he practically beamed. "Awesome! I'll let the recruits know that you're headed to the aviary!" He smiled, giving you a quick wink before taking off towards town.
You rolled your eyes once again at his childish flirty ways and shut the door. You didn't know when he'd ever get the hint that you weren't interested.
You were in for a long day you supposed. At least this meant you would hopefully get some girl time with Cora.
You put on your Rebellion gear, throwing your H/C (hair color) hair into a messy bun as you grabbed your orange helmet and headed out the door.
You of course didn't walk to town since it was more than a few miles out so typically you hopped on your speederbike and headed towards base.
You sped through town, nearly running over a few of the stubborn terrestrial residents that didn't like to kindly move out of the way. You smirked, slowing down your bike as you finally reached base.
The first to greet you was of course Cora. She was talking to Kent Askona, her rebel boyfriend. You smirked and rolled your eyes as she gave him a quick kiss on the lips before running over to you.
Her icy blond hair flowed behind her. She could've literally been royalty and you had no idea what she was doing on Dathomir when she looked like she should be sitting in a palace, all prettied up.
"Y/N! Hey, how's it going? Gonna show the recruits who's boss lady?" She smiled, giving you a bone crushing hug.
You patted her back, barely able to breathe yourself. "Who told you that? Lionel?" You smirked, looking over behind your friend to in fact see Lionel chatting with the group of new recruits.
"Pft, how'd you know? You know he's got the hots for you," Cora teased and you punched her arm.
"Yeah, not funny blondie," you sneered. That was your nickname for Cora.
"Ouch," she whined. "Get over it," you smirked. "You are such a great friend," Cora replied in a sarcastic tone.
Before you could carry on your conversation with her any more, Lionel ran towards you and grabbed your arm, practically dragging you to the new recruits.
You yanked your arm away from him, glaring as he seemed to not even notice. He had that same goofy, smitten smile on his face from earlier.
"Squadron, I'd like to introduce you to your captain! She will be teaching you the ropes of flying-"
You cut Lionel off, clearly having enough of him for one day. "Let me handle this Lionel. You go help Kent with some things, k?" You said, practically ushering him away.
Kent caught on and gave you a small nod before grabbing Lionel on his shoulder and walking away with him. You mentally thanked him as he saved you from anymore Lionel torment.
You heard a few snickers from your recruits but shrugged it off. "Let's get down to business. So you wanna be a force to be reckoned with huh?" You said, now serious as you walked and studied each new face.
"Joining the Rebellion takes bravery, dedication, and a willingness to fight for what's right and get the job done no matter what the cost just as our Princess Leia would want," you start off saying.
"I hope you all know that this is a serious dedication and I need those of you that are willing to be a rebel to put your best effort forward today. Some of my best and oldest recruits will be pit against you all to see how well you will do in a real life battle. This is to test you. I wanna see what you've all got today. Get out there and make me proud!" You practically yell that last sentence and that was enough to get everyone rallied up and eager to prove themselves.
You had faith in everyone you saw. That was part of why you joined the Rebellion. You had that spark of fiery hope and that was something hard to find nowadays.
All throughout the day you spent your time training the new Rebellion.
You felt like you made good progress and that what you did today would make the Princess herself very proud of all of you today.
Your forces on Dathomir were growing and that was one thing that also continued to give you hope.
But that would all change in the morning.
