I heard Frances Eleanor crying and rolled out of bed, "I got it, John." I mumbled when John slowly opened his eyes. I left to her room and picked her up, "Hey there little one." I bounced her as she whined before my nose scrunched up, "Ew you need a diaper change!" I put her down and quickly did the nasty deed. She kept trying to touch her poop though and that was nasty as fuck.
When she was all cleaned up I threw the diaper into this weird thing Maria got us called a diaper genie, it's like a trashcan but you don't smell the diapers and it has to be taken out like a trashcan when it's full. Frances Eleanor made grabby hands when I turned back and I, of course, picked her up, "Do you know what today is, little miss?" I asked.
We headed downstairs since I figured she was probably hungry, she was chewing on her fist so probably. She kept babbling and I felt myself chuckle, "It's my birthday. You're the only birthday present I asked for, did you know that? In the short time I've known you I've been happy, upset, weirded out, and scared because of you. If you ever see a gun again, run the other way.""Hyut," Frances Eleanor said and I put her in her highchair where she began to smack the tray while shouting, she has come to recognize that the highchair meant she was going to get food, she really liked getting food.
"I'm getting it, I am, you don't have to yell at me," I laughed as she kept shouting until I put her little snack foods on the tray which she began to shovel into her mouth, "Slow down, you'll choke." She, of course, didn't listen and I made a bottle for her while she chowed down.
When she was done I picked her up, "I love you." I told her and sat down on the couch, putting the bottle in her mouth as she put her hands on the sides and began to drink it. She couldn't hold bottles up by herself because she wasn't strong enough but she always pretended to be holding it anyway, "You're so cute too and even though you can't really talk you're definitely full of attitude." I wanted to kiss her forehead but she was busy drinking her bottle.
In the next few hours, Francis Eleanor and I sat in front of the television watching Buzzfeed Unsolved since I've become obsessed when I heard John stumbling down the stairs. I turned my body to look at him and smiled, "Good morning. Francis Eleanor likes hearing about ghosts, demons, aliens, and serial killers."
"Oh my God," John laughed quietly and grabbed his jacket, "I'm running to the store. Do you need anything?" He looked over as he readied himself to go out in the cold weather, "And happy birthday, Lex."
"Thanks and I think Francis Eleanor is going to start teething soon so she needs a teething ring," I told him and to punctuate that Francis Eleanor began to smack my leg and babble, "She agrees." I decided.
"Okay, okay," John giggled and then headed out but not before jogging over and kissing my cheek with a small, "I love you." Before he yelled, "Bye!" And ran out of the house to the car while I bounced Francis Eleanor on my knee.
"Your daddy is really weird," I whispered to Francis Eleanor as the show switched to the Zodiac Killer, "But he's getting you something new to chew on that isn't your fist!" Francis Eleanor looked up before shoving her fist into her mouth again as she blinked and I laughed, "You need the ring, Francie...ew I don't like that nickname at all."
We settled back down again and waited for John to come back but noon soon rolled away without him coming back and I had to feed Francis Eleanor a messy bowl of baby food. She kept spitting it out until she understood it was food and then she began to eat it so fast she shouted if I took a break to even check my phone. When she was finished a sighed, "You're a mess."
I held her at arm's length and ran to her room where I took her clothes off quickly and threw them into her little laundry hamper. From there I grabbed some baby wipes and cleaned her off before throwing a new onesie onto her that said 'Daddy's Little Princess' with a crown design about the words. I then put a pink tutu on her and slipped her little white socks on, "So pretty!"
"NyAH!" Francis Eleanor shouted and kicked her feet wildly. I, of course, laughed and carried her to an Arts & Crafts room that we had for some reason, there was an extra room in the house and we refurbished it for different hobbies. This included hair which I went over to and sat Francis Eleanor on the table, holding her up because she wasn't quite sure how to sit on her own yet. I grabbed a ponytail and a comb which I used to part her hair and then I made her two ponytails into puffballs.
"Oh my gosh this is amazing! You're so cute!" The front door opened and I picked her up again, "Daddy's home!" I ran down the stairs to John who had made his way to the kitchen where he set his supplies down on the counter.
"Hi! There's a surprise in the dining room!" He said and grabbed Francis Eleanor, "I missed you so much. Seems like your father changed you while I was away...does it possibly have anything to do with the mess called a highchair?"
I gulped, how did he always hit the nail on the head? John laughed more before we went to the dining room to see what he had gotten for me, "A cake? John..." I felt like scolding him slightly since we agreed not to celebrate my birthday this year, all of our money was being spent on Francis Eleanor since baby things cost a lot.
"Shhh it's only a cake, no candles and it was cheap. Really cheap. I bought it on impulse too, wasn't planned. Now shut up, Francis Eleanor can have some too after we clean the highchair so it can technically be her's. I mean, we were gonna get a cake for her anyway." He stuck his tongue out and I rolled my eyes before smiling.
"You found a loophole you dick," I kissed his forehead, "Okay let's clean that highchair."
