Lafayette
The nerves, God the nerves, I've never felt more nervous about anything in my life. Theresa was here and God I was so glad she was, I honestly can't believe she agreed to come after I dropped her aunt for trying to get to my money but she was the kind of girl to not give a shit about that. I hurriedly tied the tie to my white suit and looked into the mirror one last time.
"Lafayette, Ç'est l'heure," Theresa said as she opened the door to the dressing room I was in. She had found herself a tan colored dress and she looked beautiful in it.
I smiled and nodded, "Je suis prêt," I told her. Even though you're only supposed to have one person walk you down the aisle I opted for two so I could have both my families give me away; Theresa and papa.
Theresa smiled and led me to where papa was. I took their arms with my two and papa looked at me, "I can't believe years of watching you grow has led to this moment." He said quietly as we waited for the wedding march to play.
"I can't either..." I mumbled and glanced at Theresa before looking back at papa, "But I am glad. I know I will not ever regret this moment. I still can't believe this is 'appening." I smiled at the door as the first chord to the awaited song began.
"I know you won't," Papa whispered back before he and Theresa opened the doors. I felt my eyes trying to find every single person, besides the altar to the right was my wedding party. I had Alexander, followed by Thomas, then Peggy who was holding Susan, and Tori. Then, to the left of the altar was John, Jane, Maria, Nate, and then Angelica. They all looked so beautiful but I felt my breath stop when I saw Hercules. He also had a white suit though a blue vest and black undershirt were different than my all white suit.
My eyes reached Herc's and I took in a sharp breath when I saw tears leaving his eyes. God, I love this man. I walked up the steps to the altar and took his hands in mine instantly, "Why're you crying, you big crybaby?" I asked with a giggle.
Herc watched Theresa and papa walk away before looking at our hands and smiling through his tears, "You're just so handsome and perfect and you're going to marry me of all people. What's not to cry about?" He may look tough and gritty but this man was an absolute teddy bear.
I smiled and ignored the officiator saying the passages from his Bible as I just took in Hercules, "This day could not go even better." I told him, squeezing his hands tightly, "I love you so much." I whispered.
"I love you too," Hercules replied and used his sleeve to dry his tears, "God I can't stop cryin' and it's all your fault." I chuckled and watched him try to stop crying and failing each time. Eventually, he just gave up, "I'm just so happy."
"You're going to make me cry," I told him and he only shook his head. I couldn't help but laugh at him until I heard the priest again, "You may now exchange rings and vows." He said and I just stared at Hercules.
Peggy walked over with Susan who had our rings tied to a pillow she was trying to eat. I giggled and Herc undid the rings so Peggy could go back as Herc came back, handing me his ring quickly. I bounced the ring on my hand before I stopped to listen to Herc's vows.
"Ever since we met, I've known that we're special. That the way we talk and laugh around each other is different than anybody else. That I will never meet anybody I can trust as much as I trust you. I think most people search their entire lives to find what we already found. Well...I'm done searching, with this ring, I ask you to be the treasure I find at the end of my journey." He held the ring up and I teared up with it.
It took me a moment to register that it was my turn but when I did I shook my head to clear it so I could remember and started speaking slowly, "I choose you to be no other than yourself. I choose to love what I love of you and trust who you will become. I will respect and 'onor you always and in all ways. I take you to be my 'usband. To 'ave and to 'old. In tears and in laughter. In sickness and in 'ealth. To love and to cherish. From this day forward, in this world and the next." I sniffed louder than I meant to when I finished and saw Herc crying harder.
The priest then spoke again, "Do you, Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier de Lafayette, take, Hercules Mulligan, to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?" He asked.
I didn't know how deep those words would be until this moment. I didn't need time to think about my answer as I said the following words, "I do."
He spoke again and I stared at Herc as he did, "Do you, Hercules Mulligan, take, Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier de Lafayette, to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?"
Hercules seemed to swallow a huge lump in his throat before he nodded quickly, "I-I do." He said; his eyes turning red as he tried his hardest to stop crying.
We exchanged our rings as instructed before he said, "Then I now pronounce you husband and husband! You may now kiss your spouse." Hercules didn't hesitate before smashing his lips against mine. I let him and kissed back softly, ignoring the deafening cheers of our friends as we were showered with rice. All I wanted in life was Hercules and we had just gotten married, this was insane.
