Peggy
I heard the news and I ran from Susan's room, Tori and Eliza were with her, she was fine. I just...I don't know I just was. I ran, I just ran, hallway after hallway from the directions I was given. I threw a door open and there she sat, Maria, surrounded by our friends and some of her family members.
I ran to her side and sat by her, holding her hand as I tried to keep from crying. Her nose had a was bandaged in a way that I knew it was broken, I hated that man so much. Her neck was bruised in a ring so it was obvious she had been chained, in fact, the more I looked at her the more bruises I found. Her ankles, her arms, her legs, it was terrible.
"Peggy?" I stopped looking at her arms to her face to see her eyes. I teared up and she smiled softly, "You were my Secret Santa but...I-I didn't manage to get you anything."
"Secret Santa?!" Of all the things she could worry about right now she decided to worry about that? "Maria I couldn't care if you never gave me a Christmas present in your life. I couldn't care. Just as long as you're safe, with me, raising our daughter together." I kissed the back of her hand at the end of that because I was a bit afraid to kiss her face because of her nose.
Maria's eyes lit up, "Susan! Susan? Where's Susan? Is she okay? James hit her a bunch and she kept screaming i-is she okay?" She slowly started to tear up in fear.
I nodded, "No-I mean yes-she's okay." Maria sighed and I knew I had to tell her despite knowing it would upset her, "She...James kicking her it uh broke her ribs and she's in the hospital now but she'll be out by the tenth. Usually, they'd release before but since she's a baby they just..." I didn't know how to properly speak about it so I let my sentence slowly get quieter as I trailed off.
Maria sat up and then cringed and held her stomach which I knew must hurt, "I want to see her." She said in determination.
I shook my head and made her lie down, "You have to rest. I'll see what strings can be pulled with dollar signs to get you with Susan, okay? But if you want me to do that you have to promise to rest until I get back."
Maria pouted and I wanted to kiss her but soon she nodded, "Okay but hurry. I haven't stopped thinking about seeing you both so I want Susan now." She said finitely.
"I know it must have been scary but I'll be back soon with Susan, okay? Okay." I carefully kissed her forehead and then got out to try and bribe the hospital to put Susan and Maria in the same room. Hey, being rich had its perks.
Thomas
I sat in a waiting room with Jane, our legs both bouncing nervously. She was more nervous than me but I knew this would be good for her in the long run. She kept waiting for her name to be called and looking at me expectantly as if I could make it happen by magic. She was just so scared and amazed at the same time. I swear I'm more than over the moon for this girl.
Finally, a nurse walked out with her clipboard and called, "Jane Madison?" We got up and followed her into an examination room that they made me stand outside of since they were asking personal questions. I mean, I don't think Jane and I keep those kinds of secrets but whatever, I'll respect her privacy.
Soon they invited me back in and I sat down as they explained what they'd be doing to her body. I sort of didn't pay attention but I could almost see the mental notes Jane was making...nerd. I love her though.
Suddenly she turned to me, "Thomas." I noticed the nurse and doctor were gone so I turned to her to give her my full attention, "Thomas I'm nervous and scared. What if they botch the surgery? What if it blows up? What if-"
"-Jane," I took her hands and smiled, "Jane you don't have to worry about those things because I'm right here, I'm going to be here with you, step by step, boulder by boulder. Nothing is going to happen and when you wake up you'll have breasts like you've wanted since puberty probably and it'll be a new year. What's your new year's resolution?" I knew distractions helped the most in stressful situations so I decided to ask her that.
"Well..." Jane looked down and then looked up, "To transition fully if I can." She said honestly, "I mean...well, Thomas, can we move out of the dorms?" I stared at her in shock, "Don't get me wrong, I love what we have, but..." She sighed, "But I'm living in the male dorms..."
"O-Oh," Why hadn't I thought of that? Of all the things I should've remembered that was definitely one! I nodded, "Yeah. We can start looking for a new place next week after classes start back up. Okay? Is that okay? An apartment or a house? I can buy either so don't worry about money."
Jane laughed slightly, "A house since apartment neighbors can be really bothersome and annoying." She looked at the door as it opened again and doctors began to introduce themselves. Before I knew it I said goodbye as the love of my life was wheeled away to become a happier woman.
