Chapter 1: New Beginnings
As daylight pulled me back to reality and I extracted myself from the satin sheets, I couldn't help but hope this year would be different. That I would - or rather could - be different. But as I glanced in the mirror, I knew I may as well still be dreaming. Oh well, this is life, not a dream. Time to start living - if you can even call it that.
Half an hour later, with my eyes lined in black and my lips in crimson, I headed out of the door. I don't know why but I've always preferred walking to school, even when it is pissing with rain. Headphones in, music turned up and in my own little bubble. Something about it just makes me feel okay.
Thankfully today, the elements were in my favour. The sky was a pleasant powder blue and a gentle breeze was playfully teasing at my chiffon skirt (black, of course). All too soon I was wrapped up safely in my music and, as though on autopilot, my body carried me off in the familiar direction of the school.
'Imagine living like a King some day' blared through my headphones and I felt on top of the world.
'A single night without a ghost in the walls'.
Pfft. I wish. I hadn't slept properly since it happened. But I can't think about that now.
Or ever again.
