Chapter 31: Turning Tables
I slammed my book shut, unable to keep my focus. I wanted to storm after Laura and demand to know what the hell she was playing at, but I knew my anger would only make me weak. I was still too riled up to have any self-control. She was right, I wanted her and I couldn't deny that.
I'd planned to hide out in the library all day, but now I'd been discovered, it seemed futile. I regretfully shoved my work back into my bag and headed out into the now deserted corridor. I had no more lessons today, it was the end of half term, I'm sure nobody would miss me. Acting on impulse, I turned down the corridor, and heading straight for the front of school. Thankfully, I found my path clear and nobody tried to stop me. I knew being at home wasn't where I wanted to be, but at least I didn't have to be on guard all the time there.
When I emerged onto the school driveway, sunlight was feebly attempting to break through the cover of ominous grey cloud. The temperature had picked up a little since this morning but my thin shirt still wasn't enough to keep out the harsh winds. I shrugged my bag into place and set off determinedly, keeping my pace up to stop myself getting cold. Soon, the iron gates were behind me and I was free. I pulled my headphones from my pocket and wriggled one into each ear. One of my favourite Daughtry songs came blaring through the speakers.
'There's something about the way you move
Yeah every little single thing you do
Is like one part Angel, and one part danger...'
I'd forgotten just how much I love the lyrics to this and right now it couldn't be more appropriate. Laura was completely addictive. Everything about her made me want to know more but at the same time, the closer I got, the riskier everything became. She was my world, but I was just one person in hers. I know if push came to shove, she wouldn't choose me. Nobody ever does.
'Can't understand why you got me so far gone
Gonna have to lock me up before too long'
I turned the volume up to full, effectively blocking out the rest of the world. It was terrifying just how much Laura meant to me and the effect she could have. It was dangerous though, for us both. I couldn't help but think back to what Mrs Darby had said. I knew if I wanted to make this work then I was going to have to come clean to Laura about everything that had gone on since Matt. She needed to know, or at least I needed her to know.
When I turned the corner of my road I was surprised to see a familiar red Chevrolet parked in my driveway. As I approached, the window on the driver's side wound down.
"You can't get away that easily," Laura smirked leaning over the edge of the window.
"You know, some people might call this stalking," I said without stopping, pulling my door keys from my bag.
"Well I'm not some people," I heard Laura open the car door behind me, "I prefer to call it dedication to a specific individual."
I could feel her presence behind me. Her hands snaked their way over my hips and around my waist, effectively distracting me as I fumbled with the my key in the lock. Laura made no attempt to help me, but instead proceeded to plant soft kisses down my neck, only making it harder for me to concentrate.
When my key eventually clicked in the lock and the door swung open, Laura moved inside with me, her body still pressed firmly up against my back and her hands never leaving my waist. She pulled my bag from my body and threw it to the floor before pushing me firmly up against the wall. Both of my hands were pinned over my head and Laura's tongue invaded my mouth. I missed the way she tasted and how our lips moulded perfectly around each other's.
