*FLASHBACK*

"Great, it's the first day of school and I'm already late" Elena sighed as she quickly took a few sips of her coffee. "Hurry up" Her mother snapped. "I'm going" The brunette squealed as she hurried out of the house. Within no time, she had reached school and found herself waiting at the front desk. "Here is your schedule" The lady smiled as she handed Elena a paper. "Thank you" She smiled before leaving to find her class. She wandered through the corridors for quite some time before finding her history classroom. She took a deep breath before walking in. "Hey there. Can I help you?" The teacher smiled at her. "Yeah, Erm are you Mr.Saltzman?" Elena asked. "Oh, you're the new student. Elena right?" He chuckled. "That's me" The doppelganger replied. "Well er, just take a seat where you like we're nearly done here anyway" Mr Saltzman said before turning back to the blackboard.

After class had finished, Elena hurried to find her locker. "Excuse you" She tutted as a group of guys barged past her. After a while, she finally found her locker and tried to open it, but failed. "Let me help" A cute guy offered. Elena smiled as she stepped back and watched him open the locker with ease. "Thanks..." She smiled, waiting for him to tell her his name. "Stefan, and you're Elena right,?" He questioned. "That's me,. How did you know?" She then scoffed as she put her books in her locker. "I'm in your history class" Stefan chuckled. "Oh,. Right" Elena giggled. "Hi! I'm Caroline" A blonde girl announced as she made her way over to them. "Nice to meet you, I'm Elena" The brunette smiled in return. "Erm, I need to go buy a few books for my other subjects, so I'll see you later" Elena then said before leaving. "Who the hell is she?! And why does she looks like Katherine!" Caroline blurt out. "I don't know, I was gonna ask you" Stefan sighed. "Maybe Bonnie will know" Caroline suggested.

[later in the evening]

Elena smiled lightly as she looked in the mirror. "Time to go make some friends" She scoffed as she fixed her hair and then left the house. It took her a few minutes until she reached the Mystic Grill, and when she did, she immediately walked up to Caroline. "Hey. Caroline right?" She asked in a sweet voice. "Yeah, that's me" The blonde girl replied with a giggle. "We didn't really get to talk much earlier, so you wanna get a drink or something?" Elena asked. "Sure, but tell me if you see my mom, she's the sheriff" Caroline smirked. "Will do" Elena chuckled lightly as they headed to the bar. "Bonnie" Caroline squealed. "Oh hey care." She smiled. "Ermm, what's going on?" She asked suspiciously as she looked over at Elena. "This is the new girl, Elena" Caroline announced. "Cool.... Hey Elena, could you just give us a second I need to borrow Caroline" Bonnie asked. "Sure" The brunette replied as she walked away towards the pool table. "Why does she look like Katherine?!" Bonnie yelped. "I don't know okay, I was hoping you did"

[PRESENT DAY]

"My mom is dead Caroline!" Elena cried. "Shh it's okay" Caroline whispered as she held her close. "No it's not. None of this is. I killed her Caroline, how is that okay?" Elena barked. "It was an accident, you didn't do it on purpose" Caroline sighed as she hugged her best friend. "Hey, how's she doing?" Damon asked as he walked into the living room. "Not good" Caroline replied. "You go, I'll take it from here" Damon smiled sympathetically. Caroline nodded as she left the room, and Damon took her place. "Hey, look at me" He said as he held Elena's face and wiped away her tears. "None of this is your fault. Klaus did this. He compelled you okay, just please Elena I beg you, please stop blaming yourself. I can't bare to see you like this" Damon whimpered, almost about to cry. "Compel me Damon" Elena sniffed as she lifted her head up from his shoulder. "What?" Damon asked confused. "Make me forget about my mom, compel me to think that she left town and she's never coming back" Elena pleaded. "Elena I can't do that" Damon sighed. "Damon please, if you truly do love me then compel me" She demanded.
