"Turn your textbooks to page 113 please" Alaric yelled at his class. His gaze caught Elena's as his eyes searched the room. 'You okay?' He mouthed at her, receiving only a simple nod. She opened up her textbook and started to read in silence, and stayed like that until the bell rang for the end of the day. "Class dismissed, don't forget your homework!" Alaric boomed as his students started to leave the class. "Elena, wait up!" Caroline yelled as she caught up with her. "Hey Care," Elena said, barely above a whisper. "You're not okay are you?" Caroline asked sadly. "She left, and she's not coming back" Elena scoffed. "Just, don't think about her alright. Take the day off and I'll visit you later" Her best friend smiled as she gave her a hug and then walked her to her car.
The brunette took a deep breathe as she unlocked her front door and entered her house. She looked around and realized how empty it felt. All the happiness had been sucked out of her life and now she was well and truly alone. She threw her keys onto the couch and ran into the kitchen, frantically searching all the drawers. "I can't.., I can't do this" She cried to herself as she reached for a knife. She held it right above her wrist before slamming it down. "No!" She yelled as she fell to her knees. "Why me" She sobbed. She then stopped and looked at the pool of blood that was collecting on the floor. "Why does everyone leave me?" She asked herself angrily. She then grasped onto the knife that was still deep inside her wrist and began to drag it down. She winced as she saw the cut forming, but continued to drag it down until she had made a large enough mark. She then pulled the knife out and threw it at the wall before putting her knees to her chest and rocking back and forth. "I am worthless. No one loves me. No one cares" She repeated to herself.
After a few hours had passed, she finally got up to clean the blood from the floor. After doing so, she changed into a sweater and jeans before heading back downstairs. She pulled up her sleeve and looked at where she had dragged the knife, however the mark was now gone. She then got her phone out and texted Caroline before heading out. A while later she had arrived at the Grill and was making her way towards all her friends. "Hey" Caroline cooed as she walked up to her and hugged her. "Hey Care." Elena replied as she freed herself from the hug. "How are you?" Bonnie smiled as she walked closer. "Fine, I guess" Elena said with a slight frown. Stefan walked up to her and hugged her tightly. "I'm always here" He softly whispered into her ears. "I know" Elena sniffed as she let go. "Where's Tyler?" She then asked as she looked around. "He's erm, dealing with the whole hybrid thing" Bonnie whispered. "I must seem like a real bitch, I mean, I didn't even comfort him when he needed us" Elena whimpered. "Elena, you have enough going on already, and don't worry, Tyler's got this wolf girl helping him so he'll be fine" Stefan reassured. Elena sighed as she picked up a half-empty bottle of bourbon and chugged it down. "Elena, may I have a word" A voice asked from behind. Elena put the bottle down and turned around to see the eldest Mikaelson.
"What the hell do you want Elijah?" Caroline snapped before Elena could say anything. "I believe I asked Elena a question, and I'd like her to answer if you please" Elijah insisted. "Fine" Elena sighed. "Come," Elijah said as he pointed towards an empty table. The two of them sat down and the rest of her friends listened in on their conversation. Elijah sighed before beginning to talk. "Elena, I believe your friends have kept Rebekah for too long and I wish to have her back, if she is returned, I will assure you, none of you will come to any harm, I give you my word". Caroline rolled her eyes as she continued to listen. "Your word means nothing to me, you've failed me, you've failed US, so many times before, how can we ever trust you again?" Elena spat as she walked off and back to her friends.
"That's my girlfriend by the way" Damon proudly said as he walked over to Elena and put his arm around her waist. Elena smiled softly before looking over at Bonnie who looked like she needed to say something otherwise she would burst. "Spit it out" Elena sighed. "Look, maybe we should just give her back" Bonnie suggested. Everyone turned to her and made a face. "Bonnie, NO, they don't deserve to walk around and play happy families when they killed your grams and Caroline's mom, and not to mention many other citizens of Mystic Falls" Elena yelled, causing Bonnie to frown. "Hey, let's just let loose, for one night" Damon smirked. "I agree" Caroline grinned, as did Stefan. "Fine, come on" Elena said as she walked towards the bar. As they sat down, Elijah came up to them. "Elena, I understand that you are upset with my siblings because of their past behavior but I promise you they have changed. You are passionate and caring, surely you'd understand why we'd want our sister's body" Elijah calmly said as he waited for a reply. "Maybe I am passionate and caring, but that doesn't change the fact that you along with the rest of your siblings are monsters" Elena snapped before turning back around. "I see" Elijah sighed before exiting the grill. Elena looked at her friends, waiting for some advice. "Hey this is your call, we'll give her body back whenever you're ready" Stefan smiled.
After drinking and talking for some while, they were all heading home and Damon had offered to drive Elena back and soon enough, they were parked outside Elena's house. "Am I worthless?" Elena asked as she looked over at her boyfriend. "What, no! Why would you say that" Damon yelped. "Well because, everyone in my life leaves me. As if I mean nothing to them" Elena replied as tears formed in her eyes. "You are not worthless okay? You are the best thing that has happened to me and I will never leave your side" Damon smiled as he pulled her in for a hug. "I love you" He whispered, "and nothing will ever change that" He smiled softly.
