Indigo

I'm on my feet when Phoenix walks in. His markings are bright yellow, though I already know he's angry from the way he carries himself, taunt as if he's about to explode at any moment.

I cringe as he paces backward and forwards. I'm just not sure why he's angry.

Possibly it could be because I didn't give him the respect he thinks he deserves but there have been plenty times when I've done that and his markings haven't changed.

Preoccupied in wondering why he's so upset I don't have time to evade him as he suddenly grabs my shoulders and pushes me back into the wall behind me.

"Don't move." He says, his fingers slipping to the pendant to let me know that the command has a threat behind it. I go completely still. With my hearing, I can hear his heart beating fast and his grip is painful on my sensitive skin. He runs his hands up my shoulders until they are at my neck and for a moment I fear he's going to choke me.

They trace the collar around my neck, "I don't understand you." He says, markings going red. With a deep breath, he steps back, "What do you see in him? He seems kind of pathetic to me."

I'd smile if I didn't want to hit him so badly. Is he jealous? Why? He's some big important Marked Person, why would he care? "We've known each other since we were children. We were together in that farm, and escaped together." I glare at him, "We've always had each other's backs."

"It looked like you were more than friends," Phoenix says, mouth curling in disgust.

"If you're so insulted, how about you let us go." I say.

Phoenix waves me away. "No, I'm just confused. You're... well I mean, look at you. Stronger, faster, better in every way. Why would you want someone like him?"

Yep, definitely jealous. "Because when Demon looks at me, he doesn't see the experiments, he sees what I m underneath them. I'm more than those experiments your kind did you know." I snap.

Pheonix nods slowly, "Huh, I guess I can see the appeal then."

"I know you brought him here to mess with me," I say, fear tinging my words, "So what do you want? Let him go and I'll do whatever you want. You want me to behave? You want me to pretend that we're best friends or that I'm so glad you 'saved' me by making me undergo those experiments? Fine then. Just let him go, please." I never thought I'd beg a MArked person for anything. But Demon doesn't deserve this, none of us do. I might not be able to save myself, but I still have a chance of saving Demon.

"Really? Just like that, you'd give up everything if it meant protecting him?" Phoenix watches me with a curious and slightly confused expression. He shakes his head and smiles, "Sorry but I don't believe you. No one is that self-sacrificing."

Is he just toying with me, loving the fact he can twist me? Does he just want to see how far I'll go? Or maybe he wants to do the same experiment o Demon as they did to me. Maybe this has got nothing to do with me. Fear floods my blood. No, they can't put him through all that pain. I barely survived. I'm not going to let them do that to someone else.

I step closer, keep my hands loose at my sides. "Why do you want Demon here anyway?" I ask, letting my voice turn sweet, "I thought you said you were monitoring me. Seems like you're just going to give yourself more work if you have to look after two humans."

He watches me, confusion turning to amusement as I step closer, biting my lip and looking up at him under lowered lashes. He slowly shakes his head, a smile forming, "I know what you're doing. It's not going to work."

"What am I doing?" I ask, closing the distance between us. I reach out and wind my arms around his waist.

One of his hands drops to my waist but the other curls a fist around his pendent, "You're trying to distract me so you can steal this."

"Are you sure?" I say and reaching up I kiss him. His markings flare bright red and he gasps, the sound cut off as I kiss him again. He growls softly against my mouth and I can't stop myself from smiling at it. He might know what I'm trying to do, but if I can distract him enough it won't matter He'll let down his guard for a moment. And a moment is all I need to steal that stupid pendant. He pushes me harder into the wall leaving no space between us and the hand around my neck grabs my hair pulling my head back for a better angle.

His kiss is hot and rough and I can feel him losing control.  He trails kisses down my throat and against my will, a small moan escapes my throat. What was that? I didn't mean to make that noise. Just focus on the pendant. Just a little longer, let him forget and then snatch it from him.

He gives a low laugh and his mouth returns to my own. I open my mouth and his tongue slides in and I moan, my hands running up to curl in his hair. I kiss him back, fingers moving to unbutton his shirt. If I can get him to take it off he might let go of the pendant long enough to slip his arms out fo the sleeves.

His hands travel down until they reach my butt and he grabs it pulling me tighter against him. My body heats up as I feel his own need through his jeans and I kiss him harder. "Take off your shirt," I whisper.

He stiffens, guessing my idea and I kiss him again. He melts against me but doesn't try to pull his shirt off. It still hangs open, revealing a flicker of markings that wind across his shoulders. They're ruby red now and I trace one, kissing along it. He groans and tilts his head back.

That's all I need. I grab his hand that's curls aroudthe pendent that still hangs against his chest. I pull,t he cord snapping but his fist tightens and his head snaps back to look at me. He grins, his other hand coming up to trap mine against his chest. "I told you that wouldn't work." I try to pull away but he presses me back against the glass wall behind us, "Nice try though."

I snarl and spit at him. He curls his lip in digsut, "Wow such a change in mood. Don't pretend you didn't like it either."

He lets me go and I step away from him, drawing my hand in close to my chest, "You keep telling yourself if it makes you feel better."

He smiles, "You might have been trying to play me but we both know you were way too into it for that. You might not have markings that tell my your emotions but I can read your face perfectly." He winks, "I wonder what Demon would think if I told him that you kissed me."

"Don't you dare." I hiss. Because Phoenix would leave out the part where I only did it to steal his pendent. No, he'd just parade around to Demon and mock him.

Phoenix shrugs, "I wonder, who is the better kisser, me or him?"

"Drop dead," I snap.

He smiles, "I'll take that to mean I am." He grins and with a final wink opens a doorway in the glass and walks out.
