Indigo
Sitting against a tree I watch Phoenix carefully. Finally after all this time I'll get some answers. Until now I've never even thought that I'd ever know what the experiments were all about. After all, it's not like I could just skip into the lab and ask the insane scientists what they did to me. As far as I'm concerned I'm never planning on stepping into a lab again.
But now I can get some answers. Phoenix is here and he has answers to the questions I've always wanted but never dared to dream could be answered.
"So, why did you make me?" It seems like the most obvious question and I feel like it's a good place to start.
Phoenix keeps his voice even " There were a few reason to the experiments. Some of the people in the scientific community wanted to study the effects of adding our DNA to a human and others were looking to see if an enhanced human could work for longer and be stronger. The main reason though is for when humans give birth to us. If we could make you stronger and give you the ability to heal faster than we could reuse you and you could give birth multiple times to babies."
His words are incredibly cold but it doesn't surprise me,his kind is use to blood, after all they're born by killing their own mother, why should they care about killing humans?
Phoenix continues "It's sounds harsh and it is, but what do you expect from a company that's all for profit, you have no idea how expensive some of you humans can be, if we could have you give birth to a dozen clutch of babies instead of just giving birth to one clutch than you're giving us more profit."
He sounds almost unsure of his words, like the logic makes sense but like his own emotions are unsure. I frown "you don't sound as sure about this as you're trying to pretend you are."
Phoenix nods "At school we watch documentaries about the birthing process, the stomach is literally ripped apart, I was just thinking how painful that must be to have that repeatedly done to you."
I snarl, "Wow good to see you actually have emotions."
Phoenix glares at me "look, it's not the nicest situation for your people but could you really expect my people to not use all of you to our advantage, our women were dying and we had no way to stop it. Every child grew up without a mother. A lot of women were soon refusing to have children as they didn't want to die and if we hadn't found humans our race would have been extinct in another sixty years."
I return his glare and snap "yeah and I'm sure the universe would have wept for you all dying."
Phoenix looks like he's about to say something else but I hold up my hand "Enough, I want more answers. Why was I picked?"
Phoenix doesn't look into my eyes as he says "when you had your outburst you probably would have been killed, so instead I picked you to be the next subject in the experiment."
"But why?" I ground the question out wanting him to just answer me outright.
Phoenix shrugs "Because, you interested me, I've grown up watching my father build the company, when he passed it over to me I saw it as nothing but something that made my family one of the most influential family's on the planet. My entire life I've never seen a human speak out like you did. Sure I've seen rebels on the news raid places and kill but I'd never seen one of my humans that I owned actually stand up against us. I couldn't let that spark of resistance die, it was amazing to see and so I said to myself that I'd give you another chance."
He cracks a smile "it helped that you were pretty as well."
I roll my eyes while glaring at him and say "so your saying that because I was standing up against you and everyone else that's the reason you spared my life, that makes no sense, usually any sign of rebellion means someone is shot."
